No need to apologise Colin...not while you're enjoying Italy anyway!  ;)

Well I've had the ultimate answer directly from the horses mouth this morning as I called into NOG on the way back from breakfast at Kingsley Cafe.

Apparently there are two separate policies;

1. Through the dealer for the service package

2. Direct with BMW for the Warranty although it's not referred to as warranty or extended warranty but something along the lines of select spares policy or something similar that I can't remember. Old mans memory... :(

First of all the dealer won't offer me the service policy on my bike as it is over 10 years old. When I said it seemed a bit open-ended to me he quoted some text from the Interweb about not applicable to bikes over 10 years old in a patronising manner so no service deal is on the table.

This despite the fact that the bike was purchased there when new, has had every service on time with book stamped by them with qualifying paperwork and most MOT's there up until I purchased it in February 2023 with 21636 miles on it. It has now done 26,000 miles so only 4364 miles since last serviced by NOG.

Ah well it was a nice thought while it lasted as if NOG would have offered a service package I would have booked it in today and kept the appointment this time!

Bit short-sighted IMHO as now I have no intention of ever taking the bike there to be serviced at any time and any parts I need in future will come from another Motorrad dealer so loss of business for NOG.

Secondly I was told to contact BMW directly and see if they are prepared to offer me any type of select spares policy but to be honest that was a secondary consideration of mine as the limited amount of miles I do, the condition & low mileage of the bike and how I look after it IMHO reduces the risk of any major part failing IMHO although I may well give them a punt and see what the cost/conditions are.

I really wanted to keep the BMW Service History up to date as I want to hold onto the bike for many years but I'm not going to bother now. I'll spoil it by doing most of the work myself which is usually above & beyond the service schedule in any case.

I think you might have got the same response from any dealer and in my experience NOG are one of the better ones so it seems like a case of cutting your nose off etc... if you stop using them. Just saying.

BMW used to have a cheaper servicing cost for older bikes, I guess to keep them in the network. Maybe that is long gone.

Yeah its possible but I always get the feeling when I go into NOG they certainly do not go out of their way to be helpful.

When I first bought the bike and I asked about getting the latest I-Level update I was asked if the bike started and ran. When I answered yes (while stood there in my biking gear holding my crash helmet) they sarcastically said; "Well its got the latest software on it then."

A friend of mine who was an existing customer asked the same question the following day and was told; "Yeah no problem. Should take @15-20 minutes and will cost £35. Tell him to bring it in."

I've had a couple of other instances that made me question their attitude and they certainly never mentioned a more cost-effective service cost so maybe that is long gone.

Just seemed odd to me that BMW have enough confidence to stand behind a 15-year old motorcycle with a parts warranty up to 100,000 miles and risk shelling out at some point and yet NOG wouldn't stand behind a low mileage bike purchased from and serviced by them (9 times) where they do at least get to generate regular income vs risking not seeing the bike again which will generate nothing.

Just sayin... ;)

Glyn, the warranty that I have is inclusive of parts, labour and recovery by a Motorrad dealer to their premises (on a working day) Europe - wide.

I have had quite a number of warranty repairs and never been asked to pay for any part of them, materials or labour.
