Wrinklies 11, 2nd 3rd 4th June 2025
« on: January 23, 2025, 11:49:23 am »
Who is interested in coming along this year? I thought we might dip a toe into Scotland this time. Anyone?

Interested so far
Rae      (raesewell)         Booked (booked the Star in Moffat)
Tom     (Tom K1300S)     Booked
Glen    (Bruno)
Bob     (Tom's mate)       Booked
John    (Rae's mate)        Booked
Ady     (Ady00)               Booked Mon-Tue
Eric     (Tigcraft)              Booked
Colin   (flatfour)              Booked (Northallerton Inn)

The Plan
Northallerton, turn up on Monday 2nd June anytime after 3.00pm. I suggest that we meet at Katch 101 High St, Northallerton DL7 8PP at about 4.30 pm. It's pretty central and a couple of you are staying here.

Moffat, Tuesday 3rd June 2025 we take a route to Moffat via Keilder Forest with coffee and lunch stops.

Wheyrigg, Wednesday 4th June 2025 leave Moffat and ride across to Ayr and down the coast taking in the Electric Brae which is an optical illusion that makes it look like you are going uphill when you are actually going downhill. Details Here
Then back inland to Dumfries for lunch before continuing into Cumbria and Wheyrigg Hall.

Here are the details you will need for the booking process. Sometimes it’s easier and quicker to ring the hotels directly and can be cheaper.

Monday 2nd June 2025
Northallerton Golden Lion (first choice) Katch (sister hotel if Golden Lion is full)

Tuesday 3rd June 2025
Moffat, as Moffat is such a popular destination we may have to stay in different hotels but being a small town nowhere is far from anywhere else. I will leave a Booking.com link and you can choose your own hotel and price point.
I will probably book the Buccleuch Arms, The Annandale Arms is good too and the Famous Star Hotel is a good price.

Wednesday 4th June 2025
Wheyrigg Cumbria
We have stayed at Wheyrigg Hall before it is very remote but has everything you need good food with chips that have never seen a freezer and a cozy bar. I have put links for their own website and a Booking.com link. It is sometimes best to give them a ring if Booking.com have no rooms available.

Click for Wheyrigg on Booking.com

Please let me know when you have booked.

The routes are available on MRA.

I will have the routes with me on a Micro SD card if needed.

I'm unlikely to make it Rae, sorry. But Scotland is definitely a fine place to ride in. And get wet.

If you haven't already planned your route I can vouch for the Old Military Road - 100% fun, wet or dry (I've done both):
https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/10464426?mode=share

Probably my favourite UK road so far, much more fun than Bealach na Ba.

I think there are options towards the top half to go off-piste rather than follow it all the way to Grantown-on-Spey, but I don't know them well enough to advise there.

I have started rough planning and Moffat is in the mix via Kielder forest and then maybe over to Ayr and Dumfries, I'm still working on it. There is plenty of time to change your mind Rich  :thumbsupgood:

Sounds a good plan! I can't make it but I do have this place in my list of decent places:

The Buccleuch Arms Hotel in Moffat. I think it's a bikey place maybe!

Thanks again Rae,

Its really bad timing for me as my youngest is getting married tail end of that week and things are being planned for me.
I'm going to try and grovel to management  :D and see if maybe I can do something creative and do the 2nd/3rd only. I'll update on here.

Although I don’t post much on here I’m excited to go as short as it is as last year it just didn’t happen for me and this will be a warm up for another trip afterwards at some point.

If anyone is thinking of coming along I would advise booking sooner rather than later.
