Under left side faring 2011 K1300S
« on: August 24, 2018, 05:01:02 pm »
Does anyone know what the black knob under the left side faring is for ?
Just infront of the coolant expansion tank, there is a knob that moves about a quarter turn in either direction. Initially I thought it was just a spacer to stop the faring cracking if you drop the bike, but it has finger indents and feels like its moving a valve - possibly to control hot air or water flow for summer/winter running ?

Nothing in the owners manual or any info sites that I have found, have asked my Motorrad dealer and they weren't sure.

Thanks

Welcome Paul,

Can you show us a picture of said knob?

Picture posting guides are here (you can't upload direct to the forum because of storage space issues):

It could well be the impact protector - thanks

It is just an impact protector. If it wobbles back and forth the mounting bolt is loose.

There is a something similar under the right side fairing but can't remember what it is like; not a knob, more like some 'padding'...

If you fit R&G type crash bungs they fit in place of the knob on the left and the bolt on the right.

Thanks - I assumed it was but the finger indents and slight movement made me think twice.  I will tighten it up next time I take the faring off.

My contribution, it’s an impact protector,  in the other side on a 2011 model such protector in a slightly smaller size should be absent , you can always order it fm your dealer (around 20£) and install it with the longer bolt, only as a safety precaution.
