It is with great sadness that I've heard of the sudden death of one of our long time members, Chris Canning who passed away at home, unexpectedly, on Sat 31st May
I first came across Chris back in the day when I organised a 'prayer meeting' in a cafe in an old church in Marlborough; plenty of free bike parking on the high street, a decent selection of cakes and coffees and no sign of its former use apart from the architecture. A few of the then regulars turned up for a natter and a cup of tea along with a lovely guy who wouldn't tell us who he was. He was obviously on the old forum or knew someone who was as the invite had only gone out to members. I learned much later that our man of mystery was in fact Chris but I never got to the bottom of why he was so secretive, although lots of his stories on the forums had an element of 'Well, I couldn't possibly tell you how I know that...' about them.
Chris had an eclectic mix of bikes and with his connections to the trade, about which he was equally secretive, always had a store of tyres and batteries in his fully carpeted, centrally heated garage.
Writing was not one of Chris's strengths and this sometimes made his posts difficult to understand but they were always full of useful information and advice. Equally, he didn't always express his feelings well on the forum and could at times appear to be quite brusque with other members but those of us who met him in the real world will remember him as a polite and friendly gentleman who was always willing to help when needed.
His passing will leave a large hole in both the Boxertrix and EuroKClub forums on which he was active.
I am sure everyone will join me in expressing our deepest condolences to his wife June and to everyone who knew Chris in either the real world or the virtual one.
Brian
My thanks to our very own Steve Parry for bringing the sad news to our attention.
