Clutch slave
« on: April 26, 2015, 11:58:39 pm »

Ever since I've had the K, I (and others) have found the clutch to be heavy, BMW addressed it slightly with the K13 by fitting a 2mm larger slave cylinder to it, but it was still a little heavy, this one adds another 2 mm diameter so 4mm bigger than the K12 version.

I fitted one to my bike after a long layoff through injury. Makes the clutch a lot easier to operate.

I understand how this gives an easier clutch but don't understand how you get the same stroke, to fully disengage the clutch, without altering the stroke of the clutch master cylinder.

Each stroke of the master cylinder still displaces the same volume of fluid which now has to fill a larger diameter slave cylinder hence a shorter stroke.

Brian (who doesn't find his clutch at all heavy, but probably will now  ::) )

Were any of you getting clutch judder as well and has it gone with the OBERON ? Was wondering if this is a quirk of the GT's /  S's to look out for ?

Riders, fm USA especially, are submitting very positive comments on OBERON , they claim that juddering is almost eliminated and they are especially commenting clutch performance after long rides in high temps. But wonder is this not what we expect fm an engine operating for long hours ?

You're right, the larger piston on the Oberon slave cyclinder will not travel as far as the original one. It must be operating correctly because I've had no problems with clutch drag or engaging first from a stand still.

The problem that I had with an aching clutch hand was because of a long layoff due to injury. In a recent long weekend in Wales I had no problems with aching wrists or hands. I could probably refit the original slave cylinder now but won't.
