Use Car Scanner on K1300GT?

I have a simple Code Reader for my car - if I get an OBD2 port to 10 pin adapter, can I read/reset codes on my bike?

I presume so, as both use K CAN or whatever (showing off my expert (lack of) knowledge there!).

I doubt I can do resets like ESA (which is what I'm after). Alternatively anyone got a cheaper GS-911?

if you're very lucky and you have a 'good' OBD dongle, then with the MotoScan app, yes you can.
If not, the cheapest alternatives are UniCarScan followed by OBDLink.

There are other dongles but note that the 'good' dongles always use a genuine ELM-327 chipset. Dongles with ELM copies (which normally cost £10-20) will sometimes read codes and perform some very basic functions, but not clear them.

Basic things to note:
- they will do live diagnosis, reset service warnings (i.e. change service date), reset codes, TPMS recognititon/reset (at a push), etc
- you also need to purchase the full Motoscan app to use those dongles, so even 'cheap' means around £100 outlay in total
- they are NOT as fully featured as a GS-911, but for 80-90% of features they're good. Andym2 once created a comparison table, but I couldn't see it. Still got it Andy?

Note the features may have improved in the 4 years since that was written. The dongle seems to have been upgraded for example. This is the UK distributor's page for it:

Lastly, have a look at Rae's Member's Map if you just want to use a dongle once - someone nearby may be able to assist you (with a real GS-911). You'll recognise them because they'll be carrying a pound less weight on one side - where the kidney was.

Thanks all. I had read the thread about ESA - I want to reset mine as I cannot feel any difference between sport and comfort, whereas on a borrowed GS it was night and day.

I think I will try to find a secondhand GS-911 10 pin as they’re obsolete for newer models. I have seen them go for £100.

I don't know what happened to my comparison chart... it's probably out of date anyway as they will all have been updated.

Motoscan is probably the cheapest, but you need to buy the App, an Android device if you don't have one, a decent ODB-Bluetooth adapter and a 10-16 pin adapter cable. It generally works eventually, covers most functions (including some really best left alone) and improves your German language skills.

GS-911 covers everything you actually need, plugs in without any adapters or cables and is the easiest to use. They also have some good support info on their website that explains some of what the diagnostic results mean

Texa Navigator TXB EVO with IDC5 software... Ridiculously expensive, even the annual subscription is more than a GS-911, but it covers most bikes if you have the -expensive- adapter cables. It also includes wiring diagrams that are easier to understand than the genuine BMW ones.

I've purchased a s/h GS-911 USB; the red one so cost a bit more but only 1 VIN used before. Arrives tomorrow and I'll start learning!
