The hot start issue occurs when the bike is hot and if you stall it or turn it off and try to start it again straight away it give the symptoms of a flat battery. Once cooled down it starts as normal. The fix is an extra wiring loom from the battery to the starter, should be a free fix by the dealer.

Battery wantage....

Isn't that the measure of the continuous draw that a potential new battery places on an unopened wallet? :D

Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

Show you know what you're doing and use your rear brake!

No, I think it's the new town plan for Wantage to increase housing density. :D

You only get 'watt' you pay for.

However. £200 is rather a lot for a motorbike battery, what....

Don't forget that you can only charge a Li-ion battery with a Li-ion battery charger.

Is that strictly true? Surely if the battery is sold as a replacement for a lead acid battery it must have the  necessary charging electronics built in. Otherwise the vehicle's charging system, which is expecting a lead acid battery, will cause it problems. So if these fancy new tech batteries charge off the alternator then they must also charge off an Optimate?
If it matters what gear you’re in, the engine’s too small.

Yes it is strictly true...unless you get one of the very new very-new-fangled batteries which are now being developed to include the fancy electronics inside them to allow charging from 'ordinary' chargers.

Go back and read the post from Turbobevy about 7 or 8 posts ago on Jan 15 and follow the links to where the makers of the new new batteries are talking about this very subject.

So what happens when you put a ‘dumb’ lithium battery in the bike then? What stops the alternator overcharging it, when I gather bad things like fires happen? For me that would be more of an issue than the cost of a special charger.

The rate of charge whilst on the bike is very low. The problem with a charger is that it allows the battery to draw more charge than is good for it...

I don't fully understand the technology but if you Google the facts you will come to your own conclusion  8)

There seems to be a number of issues with them... I'll stick with lead acid.
