I think the mechanic may have used used a self-tapping screw to hold the rear hugger.

The new Michelin?

Super soft you'll note the actual tyre covering has gone.

Should have put an Angel GT A on ;D

Seriously though, Loris Baz is a big bloke, and they reckon it was underinflated. An unfortunate combination.
But you can see how 'on the edge' some of these technologies are.

Looks like they will all have to use pressure sensors next year.

Looks like they will all have to use pressure sensors next year.

taken from the autosport.com site.....
Tyre pressure sensors will be mandatory in MotoGP for the 2016 season following Loris Baz's dramatic crash in testing at Sepang this week.
Avintia Ducati rider Baz suffered what appeared to be a rear tyre blowout at 180mph on the Malaysian Grand Prix track's main straight.
He escaped the accident with bruising and was able to resume testing later the same day.
MotoGP commercial chief Carmelo Ezpeleta said the Grand Prix Commission had "approved very fast" the tyre sensor decision in its meeting in Geneva on Friday.
"The system to do this will be proposed by the MSMA members in Phillip Island and this issue is something to resolve immediately," he said.
Returning MotoGP tyre supplier Michelin withdrew its soft compound from use for the remainder of the test after Baz's crash and introducing new tyre pressure stiupulations as an immediate response.
The next pre-season test takes place at Phillip Island on February 17-19.

Not sure this would have made any difference. The tyre looks to have worn trough so would have gone suddenly and with a BANG!

Not sure how you work that out the tyre so to speak delaminated and is long gone all you see in the photo is the carcass, the reason why sensors are going to be introduced is because the naughty boys in each team looking for that extra edge have been running them under inflated and of course all the shit is sticking to Michelin with the failure so the sensors are stick that is going to be used to knock the teams into line because they can't be trusted  :)
