Struggling to write a suitable response to that one. IMHO he is very wrong. The best wet weather tyre I have ever ridden on, and only marginally edged out by the Pirellis in the summer. There again I've only been through 9 sets of tyres on this bike so what do I know (10th set coming up and guess what - PR3).
I suspect that because of your high mileage a lot of your miles are straight line miles and might not be a fair comparison.
Last year I commuted along the A39 for a lot of the year and that's where I compared Metzeler Pirelli and Michelin. This year has been mostly straight lines granted.

If PR3s were not suitable for the K12/13S then I don't what would be.

I have almost no experience of anything else apart from PR4s but from riding with some very accomplished bikers over the last 8 years or so, many of whom were PR shod, then I think the guy was talking tosh.

Of course, almost all the riders I have been out with nearly all ride solo so perhaps that would make a difference.

I think the tyre manufacturers make their recommendations based on the bikes weight capabilities, so a big bike with two adults and luggage will need a GT tyre version whereas a solo rider with a few bits and bobs will get away with using a non GT version.

I do a lot of two up touring so I always go for GT versions.

The reason why I spoke to the Michelin expert about PR3 tyres on my K1200S was because mine wore out in 2,170 miles on a trip to the Picos.

Since then I have used Pirelli Angel GT type A without any problems. I especially like that they don't lose their profile towards the end of their life.

Tom, how do you find the handling with the Angel GT, ie turn-in, tram-lining etc?

I have Sportec 01 at the moment, once they start to wear they're crap...

I just fitted an Angel GT to the front. Now I have them both ends. I prefer them to Michelin 4s.
Now I just have to drill out the mudguard bolts that sheared off. Yes I was careful, backwards and forwards a bit at a time, but the things were well corroded in. B@st@*ds.

Another good tyre to try is the Dunlop Roadsmart 3. These have stiff sidewalls as standard and support the bike well. I have them on my K16GT and they are lasting well. Just done a fast run down to the Alps for a few days, no instability, good in the wet and steer very neutral. Sat at over 100mph for large chunks of the journey, rode it hard over mountain passes, and they still look good after nearly 3,500 miles which is a lot on this bike.

Should suit a K13 quite well.

+1 for the Roadsmart 3's.  I have 4K miles on my current set, and my experience is as above.

There was a thread some time ago that pretty much established that the Angel GT (A) was the best tyre out there at the moment.
Manufacturers won't include the Angels in comparison tests as it's not a level playing field with the Angels in the mix.

I'm rather surprised that Pirelli don't include it in their comparison tests...

They do, but the other manufacturers keep coming out with yet another number (PR4, PR5). I wonder why?
Whereas Pirelli stick to the winning formula:
https://www.pirelli.com/tyre/ww/en/news/2013/07/05/pirelli-angel-gt-wins-the-comparative-tests-dedicated-to-sport-touring-tyres-in-the-french-magazines-moto-journal-and-moto-magazine-plus-the-german-ps-das-sport-motorrad-magazin/

I'm pretty sure I had a more recent review which showed the Angels were best except for wet where they were 2nd. I'll see if I can find it.

Although, to be fair, they are getting quite long in the tooth. :-)
