Blackbird humour!
« on: January 14, 2018, 04:08:38 pm »
No silly, not that sort of Blackbird. Nor that one!

As a long time fan of the SR71, (toppest, baddest of the top and the bad) but not neccesarily a fan of US 'humour', I found this rather gentle story by a Blackbird pilot to be more than funny and probably oh-so true. I really can just picture it  8)

A very funny and insightful story backed up by the accompanying film. I too loved the old SR71, from the days of air show flame outs of those huge after burners to the US military guards bristling with arms keeping civilians away from the hardware. This guy was playing the best game of top trumps ever !

Brilliant, just brilliant.
I also loved the way he described what he could see.
Thanks, now onmy Facebook page.

Its not always the destination that counts its the ride, having a destination just stops you going round in circles.

Very funny. Must be an american thing. Never heard someone ask a controller for ground speed.

Love the SR71.. Seen it flown at an airshow many moons ago.. I suppose it would be impossible to see it flying at max height unless you see the vapour trails

Airraft don't leave vapour trails at 85,000ft.

With a flight time of about 17 minutes on full reheat, fuel leaks were he last thing a Lightning pilot needed. Canopy seal failure was a constant life threatener at high altitude.

Mind you, the ability to catch inattentive U2's at altitude was very scary for the yank pilots and exceedingly rewarding for the lucky RAF jocks.
