Is this Rae's old FJR?
« on: May 30, 2016, 09:50:06 am »
Having my usual perusal around E-Bay and came across this ad.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/64-YAMAHA-FJR-1300-2014-8K-mls

I reckon it's Rae's old bent bike.

It was written off Costas but not as unroadworthy but as an uneconomical repair.

Insurance companies in UK write off a bike for almost nothing. Mostowners then buy the salvage quite cheaply and repair the damage.

I'd make him an offer Rae  8)

It sounds like a bit untrustworthy to me.

He's done the repairs Brian. The insurance engineer told me that the rear subframe might be twisted. I'm happy with the one I have now.

Frame and subframe means MOT failure and bike goes for scrap. It happens that some countries accept change of subframe and issue new certificate for MOT clearance. Rest of EU countries do not .

Perfectly normal practice here when you think a set of plactics costs more than the bike is worth!

You have Cat A and B which is break only and normally as a trader you have to prove that and cut the head stock off or give the frame back to the insurance Cat  C and D can both be repaired but will take you into a different market as most dealers won't touch them period.

My 850 Norton Commando was set alight one night and burnt to a frazzle. After negotiating a reasonable write off price with good old Norwich Union I asked if I could have the salvage. No problem said the man, just don't send back the log book. So I used the write off money as the deposit on a flat then rebuilt the bike myself. Just when I had it running properly some bugger nicked it. Again good old Norwich Union gave me a generous pay out so I bought an old 750 which is still in my garage, although not used since 1996.
