Calling Shark Evoline 3 Helmet Owners?
« on: December 31, 2015, 08:46:47 pm »
Anybody here got one?  Ive been paid out for the damaged Helmet and jacket so I thought I would have a look at alternative Helmets. I saw a mate today who reckons he had one and it was the worse helmet he had ever bought and sold it after a month, but knowing him Im not taking just his word. A Schuberth C3 is probably the other option but the Shark appeals as its the only one that is approved for riding with the chin up.
Isnt it Ironic, no its a BMW what dya expect.

If you're gonna have an accident with the chinbar up, don't buy a Schuberth!

Brian (who rides with his Schuberth chinbar up all the time at less than 70mph, but his name isn't Tim and he hasn't had an accident, yet  ::) )

PS Buy a Schuberth and ride happy!

Shark helmets seem to look good and well made. The Evoline gets a 5 * rating on the Sharp Test (Some rate Sharp Testing some do not ) I use it as part of my helmet buying decision making, one reason I bought Caberg Duke for me and a Konda for my wife, they are both 5 *. Not many Flips are including mega bucks ones supposedly at the top of the tree.

Happy New Year,

I've been using an Evoline 3 for the last year. Previously I used a C3. I like the flexibility of the Evoline, especially in high temperatures or when pottering. Being able to flip the chin bar right over is a plus. Sena SMH10 fitted easily, but I did use the kit with a separate mike boom. It's a little more noisy than the C3 but not vastly so. No problem doing a full days riding with earplugs.
My only concern is rain and dark. Daytime rain is fine, as is night time dry. Together I find that any water which finds it's way inside just doesn't seem to clear. You can't fit a Pinlock as the tolerance between the visor and helmet is too fine.
I had a good look at its replacement at the NEC. The EvoOne I think. This does have a Pinlock and looks better vented, not that the 3 needs it in my opinion. A friend of mine got an E3 at the NEC for £170. Ahead of the spring release of the new one I guess deals will be out there.

PS. It's often easier to fit the into a pannier with the chin bar open.

That last point is a good one Paul and one which you don't see discussed often.

When I was commuting a lot with my Givi Business Case I used to leave the helmet in the standard pannier on the other side on the 1150GS so I only had the briefcase to lug to the office. Trying to negotiate lifts and multiple sets of security doors with both hands full is just asking to get the helmet bashed. I'm not sure I would leave the helmet in the K's Sport Case, too easily nicked with a Stanley knife!

Brian (who remembers commuting with great fondness, not  ;D )

Thanks a lot Paul, just what I was after, so a bit noisier then, thats ok. Yes Ive seen the new Evo one too and maybe with the pinlock could be the one to go for. Thanks again

I don't have an evoline 3 and personally don't like flip helmets, I do use a Shark Speed-R as my daily helmet and rate it. It is well built and solid, and comfortable for me. Customer care from Shark is good too, I recently managed to lose the rear spoiler from the helmet, and Shark took it, shipped it to France, fitted a new spoiler and returned it to me for free as part of their lifetime warranty. I'll buy Shark again. A friend lost the rear vent on his Arai and had to pay £35 for a new one.

I had an evoline (not a 3) and it was great while it lasted. Then the ratchet mechanism got "bungee up" and opening the visor became a two handed effort. Not good. A friend has told me the 3 has improved and fixed it, but I don't have the spare readies to take the plunge, not when I have a System 6 for summer use (pinlock buggered) and a C3 for winter. I much prefer the 6, even to the shark (but I had sys 4's then)

I have one and it's great. I had a Schuberth before that and it was awful - rain used to run down the INSIDE of the visor.

No misting with the Shark and it's also easy to flip up and down. I really like it.

Here's my reviews of both:

Yeah, I found your review before I bought it HH, and funnily enough ended up buying the same Hakka colour version you tested.
