You know that your luggage will fit that bike Brian.

Absolutely Tom, but too much hassle. By the time I keep my 11 year old seat and my 11 year old panniers, I have an almost 11 year old bike and I can't face the lock twaddle. Plus, trying to sell a K without luggage makes it more difficult as Mark is finding out.

Brian (whose cases are showing signs of age, not to mention too much tight filtering  :o )

Brian, If the S's came with luggage as standard (I am not sure) use same as a bargaining tool to get a better price as you will need to budget for it if you buy that bike. The seat can be altered for not much wedge by upholstery chaps. I know we are all different but I go on quality of core bike when buying secondhand. I do not go on its colour or for that matter what luggage it has. When I bought my K GT bike it had  scuffed panniers and no top box. I sourced a secondhand Top Box off an RT (Same Box) in Grey for £100 and had it painted and my panniers paint sorted for £100. I went North of Edinburgh for the bike but paid at least £1500 less than I had seen in any dealers. The Core bike is exceptional and now for a modest sum is fully luggaged up. The price of this K S is bloody good and worth a punt.

I flew to Belfast to buy and bring back a Versys 650 a few years ago, again it was a minter and brilliant value for money, including flights and ferry cost saved approx £500.00.

“Tempus et maris aestus neminem expectant”.

By the way I have no connections with the seller,

JS

Rae, Yes my friend Googalasus taught me all I know, its nice to converse with an equal intellect such as yoowooh. :P

PS I now treat bike luggage like suitcases, ok I look after them as best as I can but if they get the odd knock / Nick/ Scratch so what its functional and if it bothers you that much wait until the scrapes get too much to stomach and get them tarted up.

I agree, with everyone and everything.

But if I can get the same quality of core bike with the bits and bobs, and I can, for very little extra money, then why give myself the ball-ache?

I missed a mint 2009 with all the toys except an alarm, by minutes earlier this week. A couple of thousand more miles than Mark's bike, but otherwise perfect.

They are out there and missing one or two addable bits won't stop me buying, although the bank mangler might.

Brian (who will deny he ever said the first sentence  ::) )

Because of the poor resale value of high mileage bikes, I was happy to transfer or remove and sell on as much as possible.

Keep looking Brian there are some great bargains out there. From my experience don't expect too much for your bike. I thought that you had a friends K1300S lined up a few months back?

As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

I did. But after 3 months slaving in my back garden digging out 9 tons of thick black clay, he suddnly realised he was as fit as a fiddle and is now riding his K, damn his eyes!

Brian (who is, of course, delighted for him  >:( )

PS I am sick of going to dealers to look at bikes that claim they have Dynamic Package only to find no shift assist; how is that supposed to work. Went to look at a bike today, top price and paint bubbling up on rear drive and transmission. " Yeah! They have a tendency to do that.... " Effin salesmen!

Quite interesting when going into k1300s's forsale on eBay and going into completed.

I rather like the bidding process,it was only after I bought mine that the seller told me it was the extra penny that I bid that got it :o

The very first thing I ever bought on eBay (as it was back in 2002) was a cheap booklet on 'How to win bids and spot scams on eBay' or some such. About £2 for the electronic dowload. Best thing I ever bought. I was in the market for some Bose stereo stuff and I spotted big scams at once with the aid of the guys advice, and saved myself squillions of money tokens in the bargain.

His advice on bidding amounts was to never bid whole pounds, e.g. always bid the number of pounds and 89p or somesuch, because most folks only think in whole pounds or 50p and you may only be paying slightly more but it puts off the less conscientious bidders. Among many other tips for winning bids this one little tip has won me so many items, just for the sake of a few pence.

As you say Chris, paying 1p for your bike was worth so much more.

Brian (who still thinks bidding only once with 15 seconds left on the clock is the killer bid winner)

If it wasn't for the ESA I'd be looking at the White one at Stafford even though there's no tell photo of the front wheel, and guy obviously isn't a tight arse because he's left the good bits on.

The one I like is the orange one at CMC but the price is absolutely pants  :(
