So, not an advertising fest then?

They ran out of tires at a tyre company test track...?
-
Ran out of tyres after 2000 miles ?
-
Constant high speed on a heavy bike like the K1600 will eat tyres. When we were doing fast laps on the Ring we used to limit ourself to a maximum of two laps at a time or the tyres would wear out in no time.
-
I would have expected tyre people to know that and have had enough in the "awaiting fitment" pile. It seems a shame that the record was not set at the level appropriate for a full 24 hours riding.

Trying to find out how many sets he went through - even 2,100 miles shouldn't use that many :o
Sounds a good bloke and was quite interested reading through his other records.
-
Well that's me wrong!
Two fronts and four rears - apparently most tyre test tracks are very abrasive, almost like sandpaper!

:( :( :( :( :(

So, if the sales pitch isn't 'Contis last forever' is it just that 'Contis don't pop at 141mph' ?
Oh, and:
'These ultra light rims trimmed 40% weight off the stock rims. Thus offering better mpg, shorter stopping time and faster acceleration. The weight was further reduced with the installation of a EarthX Lithium battery. Shaving off several pounds of weight from the motorcycle.'
Really?
It's a bit like the travel advice: 'How do I get to Glasgow? Don't start from here.'
In this case: 'How do I lighten a bike? Don't start with a K1600.'
Underwhelmed.

Well, of course, he could have used a K13, that would have eaten the record and not its tyres.
Oh no! Silly me, BMW don't make such a bike any more ::)

It happens to me twice so far, blame the track days.
