This is not what I was planning for a friday, one of my mates turned up with his K1300GT MOT fail top and bottom ball joints, four hours later and job done.

Oh yes! We've all been there and done that :o. Hope you booked him in for another set in about 18,000 miles :o assuming you fitted the genuine BMW cheese ones.
-
Well done Tom. Not rocket science is it?
-
Depends if you strip the threads in the wheel carrier like wot Brainstormers did to my 12.
Brian (who did get a new wheel carrier out of it mind)
PS That's a very organised drive you've got there Tom ;D
-
Yes Brian I used the dealer ball joints are there any better units from another supplier, no problem with the threads and its in my nice warm workshop Brian, yes and that's something else we have in common this is getting very scary Brian, if you look to the back you will see one of my clay traps.
-
I blame our northern updraggin' ;D
We don't have reports of the quality of them, but there are much cheaper ones out there; in fact there are a set for sale on here somewhere....

...in fact there!
To be honest, I can't see them being any worse than the originals. My first replacement set (at 18,000 miles) had to be done again at 18,800! Read it and weep!
Brian (who needs some kind soul to buy Gramey's bits and do a long term test on em)

I read somwhere (Maybe wrong) same component off a BMW 5 series but loads cheaper, anybody know if there is any truth in this ?
-
Anyone got access to a car parts catalogue?
I might be able to verify the allegation that my C1 has a 3-series windscreen wiper and motor.

...is that to power the bike?

The two on the bike are of different sizes so it might not be as simple as that Simon. Probably Cortina at the top and Anglia 105E at the bottom ::)
-
I think they detune the wiper moter for the C1-125
-
Don't decry the C1. My dealer lent me one whilst my bike was in for service once (yes it was my choice). It was a hoot! Lots of fun and some very funny looks from car drivers. :)

Correction there Brian! I never went there ::)
BBB and remember I am not your uncle!
-
...there's always one ::)

Oh just a tip before trying to remove the ball joints from the wheel carrier, turn the carrier upside down and poor some methylene chloride into the back of the threads, leave it for about 30 mins or longer and it will break down the blue loctite, it also works on the green lif you cannot get heat to it, I have found that heat dose not always work, this will stop the ball joint dragging out the threads. you can get some from Ebay or Amazon, about £6 for a small bottle.
-
I've not heard of that one. Good tip. :)
-
Excellent tip Tom, I applaud you!
Brian (of course, this only works if you take the wheel carrier off, unlike t'other Tom 8) )
-
Which t'other Tom?
