Swaf on the workshop floor.
« on: April 15, 2023, 08:57:50 am »
I took my K16 in for it's first service yesterday. I was looking through the window into the workshop and could see a fair amount of swaf on the floor under the ramp. Talking to the service manager, it seems there's a problem with GS swing arms filling up water so they do a free fix, which involves drilling a hole in the bottom to allow any water to drain.

You couldn't make it up...well, you could on April 1st.

Let's make a great off-roader and not make the lowest bits water-tight.

Good job you took it in, cos, as usual, BWM ain't gonna tell you about it.

Still, that's the fabulous customer care we all thought we were paying for!

Is it just GSs that suffer this, or might the Ks?

Swarf is the correct word. ::)

The article says it is to do with the extra flex in the UJs in the longer travel suspension on the GS and the extra-duty R models.

I've certainly never heard of rusty bits on the K rear end. I guess time will tell.

Yeah I only heard about it when I got my 1250gs. I had them take it apart to re grease at the first service. They did it for free, but then I recall afterwards bemoaned the fact it was a slightly different model or something and took much more effort to take apart.

In any case, there were slash are many photos of rusty internals. Silly billies eh.
