K1200 / K1300 Forum / Carbon Akra Exhaust and Catalytic converter
« on: June 30, 2023, 05:57:00 pm »
Hello everyone, bit of a random one.

I used to have a K1300S with the BMW akra which was stock and had a CAT, i swapped to a K1300R with the Carbon akra but not the full akra line. In my old bike, at night after a ride I could see the CAT glow red inside, in the carbon one I can't see. I also notice the bike smells like older carb bikes, it doesnt smoke and it drive like other K1300 I rode so I doubt it's tuned but it def have a strong smell of richer mix. The bike had a new ECU mounted by BMW two years ago under previous owner.

My guess is it doesnt have a CAT, do you guys know if the Carbon akra ( not full line) came with one? and if it doesnt have one is there any problem on MOT? Is it ok to run no CAT with standard ecu map?

Thank you and sorry about this feline heavy post :winkthumbs:

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Trackers ... and where to put them
« on: March 31, 2023, 10:20:20 am »
Bit of a sensitive topic here but if you live in or around a big city trackers are a must.
On my K1300S I had a Scorpion Datatool tracker and it fitted nicely behind the battery and in front of the tank. Change the standard screw to protected one and it was a decent place to put it. However on my K1300R that space is about half the size for some reason ( maybe a bigger battery maybe the bikes are a bit different) so I am not sure where to place said tracker. In a previous bike I had it in the air box for example but haven't looked at the K's yet.

Anybody got a tracker ( battery connected) and could share where they located it? Conscious you might not want to broadcast it so feel free to PM directly if it's better.

Thank you

K1200 / K1300 Forum / K1300S or K1300R?
« on: March 08, 2023, 10:27:47 pm »
Hello everybody!

Bit of a controversial topic here potentially and I am sure it's been debated many times but why not do it once more?

A bit of background: I was previously active on this forum and had a 2012 K1300S that I had to sell back in 2020. I am now in a position where I can buy one again but find myself wondering if a R would not be better for me and would welcome your input!

Main reasons why I am thinking R this time:
- More rare and based on current price I think would retain their value better
- I commute into London so a lot of town riding so don't need the fairing protection as much, anyone ridden both and can advise how the R protection is?
- Heat management: my old S used to get too hot in town in the summer. I would occasionally get the hot start problem ( despite the fix) after stopping for petrol and be forced to make a 15 brake  ::). I am assuming the R is better given the lack of fairing trapping the heat?
- I know the gearing is shorter on the R which is no bad thing in town, anybody got more insight on rideability?

Anything else I should consider before making a decision between the S and R?

Who's Who? / Newbie from London
« on: July 10, 2018, 03:37:54 pm »
Good afternoon everyone,

I have been reading the forum for a bit and finally decided to introduce myself, I bought a used 2012 K1300S in May and have been enjoying it everyday since! It was an upgrade on my old F800ST that I had for almost a decade, the K1300S was a natural step up.

I drive around west London I may see some of you around there

I have a few questions around the bike, I have been reading the different thread but some questions are remaining:

- I think my bike's clutch has a little bit of the classic clutch basket spring problem, it doesnt make any obvious sign/sound but when you keep your finger on the clutch lever (just touching it ready to upshift) you can notice that when you accelerate hard, the biting position of the clutch shift back a little bit, as soon as you release the gas it goes back, it's a weird thing, it's link to hard acceleration not which rpm /speed you are at. It's my first hydraulic clutch so not used to that feeling and wondering if anyone else has something like that?

- Does your bike drinks more oil when it's really hot at the moment, on my f800st i never topped up between services but recently it looks like it's been moved from middle to low oil level in 1000k miles of very high heat in london traffic this last month
