Retrieval problem
« on: July 28, 2018, 09:58:49 am »
The damn TV recorder has packed up and my other half would like to watch some programmes previously recorded. So, I've highjacked the hard drive and here's a photo of said component.

Anyone know how to retrieve these programmes onto a DVD or stick or is it kerplunk. Thanks in advance.

Jon

You can get IDE/SATA to USB cables that can connect to your computer, the issue is whether the drive has had it. Also how is the drive formatted and whether it's encrypted if it's Sky/TalkTalk box..

It does have a SATA connector - Serial ATA-300, aka SATA 2:

Thanks for the info chaps. I'll make further enquiries. Hard drive is from a View 21 box.

There used to be the advice if it's the HDD that's failed that you could put it in the freezer for a while then it'd work for some other while.

Obviously it depends what's broken and I've never bothered to read how or why it would work! Remember to bag it up if you do get that desparate ;).

Let us know how you get on as I have a Virgin box with stuff on that I wold like access.
I suppose it depends on what file format was used for the recordings and if there are any computer programmes out there that will read those files.
VLC is one programme that is pretty versatile.
Its not always the destination that counts its the ride, having a destination just stops you going round in circles.
