I see that Michelin are still recommending GTs for the 1300GT but standard ones for the year equivalent 1300s.

Thanks!, Am going Friday now as have booked in to see this one on the same day-

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/bike-details/202311244254151?sort=distance&advertising-location=at_bikes&make=BMW&model=K1300S&postcode=wa45hj&fromsra

The black one is due its 18,000 valve clearance check at a cost of around the £500 + mark I believe at BMW Motorrad. Could be a negotiating point

P.S dont for get to check the ESA pre-load works with the engine running, you can feel the ride height change.

A quote from Richtea......

"It's a BMW dealer selling, which is interesting. Clearing out the stock room, or maybe changing marque?

A little birdie told me they'll probably accept an offer around £500".

Hi NIBS
I installed the kit. The only issue was getting the flex tubing to fit as the instructions weren’t clear on where it went and the diameter of the tube was larger than any possible space. Had to ‘form-fit’. Haven’t had it out for a ride yet, that’s tomorrow. Doesn’t sound very different at idle, but look forward to some…tests. :)

Hi Neal
Yep had to "form" my air tube also, as a very snug fit.
Did you have any interference issues with the cable for the ECU board where it pops up over the frame. I had to massage mine slightly to get the filter cover on. Not sure how much of a gain you will get without optimising the bike without all the extras.  Please keep me posted. I am interested if you think there is a ntoable difference with that modification only.

That is really impressive. I thought my R was a monster as it is couldn't imagine a further 30bhp on the big girl  :winkthumbs:

With the remap has it smoothed out the jerky throttle and how does it affect the MPG?

John.

Hello John

Yes the remap has smoothed out the throttle response completely

I have no idea on the MPG, I don't do many miles so luckily it's not an issue for me. I think we can safely assume consumption will have increased.

Thats impressive, close on 20hp from a full system airbox + remap.

Had planned to go PC or remap on mine after fitting a full Akro and DNA but found my particular bike fuelled beautifully after fitting pipe and filter.  Mine always seemed to run slightly rich on standard set up with the motorsport Akro can. My full Akro system (steel) came with a full race carbon can that actually had no provision for a mute, was too noisy for everyday use so I drilled the end cap and rivetted in a db killer.  Should really take mine to BSD for a remap but with ferry, accomodation + map it would cost me around €600 all in. In real world riding spending that money on Wilbers or Mupo would give me a bigger bang per buck.

Hi

Its actually nearer 30bhp over stock! Std 149bnp, tuned 178.3bhp or a 20% increase in power.
Sounds like you have the Racing line system, still available. Akra also made the Evoluzione system for the road in titanium with a road legal end can, which is what I have. Its very light but that went out production years back.

The bike would be improved with an ecu flash or PCV remap. Would be interested to see how much you are making. There must be a dyno set up in Ireland. Is the Wilbers electrically adjustable via the ESA?

Thanks for the input. Now I’m wondering if the extra air would throw off the tuning (?) on the ECU. ???

Hello Neal

That kit is worth buying. I installed ram air on the L/H side of the air box on one of my K1300r's but I had to make the components as I thought this was now unobtainable. A great find.
With regards to rear wheel power from the standard S and the R generally they make between 149 and 153hp at the rear wheel depending on the Dyno, air pressure, condition of the bike etc but that's the ball park figure. I have confirmed this from various sources, including two separate dyno operators and my own K1300r as a base run. I am now in the process of tuning the bike and have installed a Power commander, full Titanium Akrapovic, both sides of the air box have been opened with matching air filters, the lambda sensor is removed along with the exhaust flapper/servo.

The reason for the tune is the other K1300r I own has had all of the above, apart from the power commander it has an ECU flash, and it makes a genuine 178 rear wheel BHP and 102 ft lbs of torque. Its loads faster then the std bike. Hope this helps in your decision to tune yours.
When I have the newly tuned K1300r remapped and on the Dyno I'll let you know what it makes.

Hi

I wasn't aware a kit was still available for that modification. Who makes it and what does it include?

K1200 / K1300 Forum / G2G RADIATOR CLEAN WITH COIL CLEANER
« on: July 19, 2023, 09:55:23 am »
Previously I had removed and cleaned my radiator by soaking and flushing, more than once, with water and brushing.
However the bike was still running hot, 4 bars, with the fan regularly cutting in way too much. I was on the verge of buying a new rad, not sure if they are still available new from BMW.
I saw this coil cleaner mentioned previously, G2G-FOAM, and decided to give it a go as a last resort.

I bought the G2G, removed the rad from the bike, and completely soaked it from the engine side using half the bottle. I decided to collect any debris, if any, into an old sheet.

I waited ten minutes then gently flushed the rad though. I reapplied G2G in the worse affected areas.
The results are incredible.

After drying out the collected material in the sun I was able to empty the contents of the sheet into a microwave tray 5"x 7". The results speak volumes.

Additionally, there was at least 5mm of debris/sediment in the flushed water that had passed through the sheet which I collected into several containers, all with considerable amounts of muck in the bottom.
After drying, the airline also blew out even more crud that I couldn’t collect.
The radiator is visibly cleaner through all the fins that were previously completely clogged.

The bike now runs consistently at two bars, occasionally three. The fan has not kicked in on my last few rides.
In summary this product has exceeded my expectations and saved the cost of a new radiator, £730.00, if available.
Cost of the coil cleaner….. £20.74 inc delivery and some elbow grease.

Wow, that's royally shagged, to put it politely!

How many miles has it done, and how come just the bottom edge is so damaged? (or did I miss it further up the thread?)
It looks like someone's been it with a hacksaw every 5cm.

I also have this much damage to the bottom of the rad.
I believe its caused when the bottom support rod is pulled from the bottom of the rad. It can be quite difficult to remove if WD40 isn't sprayed on the rubber to ease its way off the rad's peg which also needs to be supported up to stop the bottom set of fins detaching at removal. Probably occurs from repeated or clumsy removal combined with untreated corrosion over time.

Hello Arch

I have the Triboseat grip mesh fitted. Its a very cheap option, no need to have the seat re profiled, and it works fantastically. Tucks around the seat, bit like a hair net, not that I would know a lot about hair nets.
My wife had the same issue but its now completely eradicated, regardless of how I ride.

Check the link:-

https://www.triboseat.com/product/triboseat-bmw-k1300s-2009-2016/

Available on Ebay for £17:49.

Good luck.

Hello Fatporker

I replaced the coolant on my K1300r yesterday. Total coolant volume is meant to be 2.55 liters. So it sounds like you still have some air in the system if only 2 went in.  With the vacuum refilling process completed and with the bike still on the side stand you most likely still have air trapped in the top hose on the side stand side of the bike ( left ). The hexagonal plastic bleed valve with the cross in the top lets this air out out.
Also the water pump has a bleed nipple this needs to opened as well.
I had the same issue as you when I opened these bleed points no fluid came out. However I squeezed the top left radiator hose sharply several times and could hear the air in the tube bubble into the expansion tank. When I checked the level in the radiator it had gone down quite a bit. I refilled the radiator to the top and hay presto when I opened the the bleed valve mentioned previously the fluid started to flow out after a short burst of trapped air. It all worked fine after topping up again when I tested it. Hope this works for you.
