My car is a real quick one, bikes get in my way of overtakes sometimes. I can almost see the surprised eyes in their helmets when they look in their mirror during a quick overtake and see my car gaining on them. But I do always honour the bikes to do their thing when I'm a car wa ker.

It was, of course, a sweeping statement and all sweeping statements are false. Most of the time  :D

I think the behaviour you had described is "kind of" us bikers' behaviour : ride with traffic's flow, but if the opportunity presents itself, overtake the row in the blink of an eye. Bikes do it on 2 wheels, EV's do it on 4.

I have just had a look at Vianden on Google streets and as far as I can tell there are no cobbles on our route.

Watch out for a particular fly. When I arrived there about ten years ago and opened my visor whilst trundling down what was then a cobbled street, he flew straight into my eye.

My technique also for dealing with up ramps. I had a particularly difficult exit from an underground hotel car park in Vernon
It was very steep with a sharp left hand turn. I had to take the panniers off and get Melanie to stand at the top and give me the go signal, the last thing I needed was a car coming in as I was leaving.

20mph makes sense around schools and in the centre of towns/cities because of pedestrians.
It doesn't make sense on a very long straight road in Scotland where no one is around.

Maybe it should be 20mph only if a pedestrian is visible.

And Scotland was lovely and sunny! We stayed in The Pineapple:

Possibly the best folly in the UK.

The leaves allow the 'infrequent' rainwater to roll down from leaf to leaf and out, rather than seeping into the walls. The 4 urns on the garden wall are actually chimneys. Some anonymous person had fun designing that in the 1760s.

Anyway, back to independent engineers!

Rae, for that our technique has always been to have the other rider (or a pillion, usually my daughter) stand at the top of the slope and, as soon as the door is open they will wave either go or stop. If it's go, a rapid charge up the ramp ensues followed by an equally swift stop at the top to avoid ending up in the road.

On another matter, the main road through Vianden was (so presumably still is) cobblestones, and we've seen many nervous departures from the hotel there, undoubtedly with good reason when it's wet.

As an IAM-defying* gear braking fan, I cannot possibly comment on this.  :-[

...and 'hella accelerating' too. On the bike this isn't a problem, but I am noticing more and more a 'my rate of change of speed is greater than yours' mentality of ev drivers when trying to overtake them in the car.

They are not driving fast because, well, no one else does, but they hate being overtaken so they out braaap you (without the braaap bit) when there is an overtake opportunity but then slow down again when there isn't.

People with exceedingly rapid cars who could behave in this way never do because a) with great power comes great responsibility and b) they never drive fast anyway.
