new Rear Tyre needed.
« on: February 14, 2023, 11:38:47 am »
I got a puncture on Sunday and managed to repair it to get home.
On close inspection there is a cut and my tyre man says it unrepairable to ride safely on it so I'm looking for a new tyre.
I have Road 5's at the moment.
Any suggestions for a cheaper replacement that will match up with Road 5GT front.
I did think about a PR4 but surely any available would have been on the shelf for some time now as I can't see Michelin are still producing them.
Any suggestions are welcome. polite that is.
Thanks
Its not always the destination that counts its the ride, having a destination just stops you going round in circles.

I'm not sure I would have too many quibbles about a long shelf life on tyres Ron. But then again, all my tyres have a long shelf life. After they have been fitted... :)

I get on with Angel GTs but they aren't the cheapest.

I am a big fan of the Angel Gt's and have had them the last three tyre changes.

I've run a mix of Angel and Michelin for a few thousand miles. It was fine.
It demonstrated some white line action from the Mich once it had worn down a bit, which other folks had previously noted, but nothing to do with a mix of tyre types.

I think you'd have to be truly ragging it to spot any issues - they're both excellent tyres.

However, you might want to consider this when choosing:

Right now I'm running Mich, and will be until Russia withdraws.

Id suggest giving FWR a ring and asking them.

https://www.fwr.co.uk/

They're very used to dispatch riders asking about combinations of tyres. I'd also highly recommend their ride-in ride-out service. I've used it many times on my K1300Ss and my H2 SX.
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

Personally speaking I'd run another Road 5 GT rear. Good tyres. Always best to keep to the same brand front and rear if you can.

Or bite the bullet and replace both.
