Others may have already discovered this item, but found this nice satnav mounting option for a K12/3S/R from Hornig. Part number appears to be NH 3/1.
It's a standard ram ball that fits into the bar end:

I have it fitted on mine and think it is the best mount I have ever used; really easy to get the screen out of the way of the cluster but still up in the quick glance area of vision.
Brian (who had to have his solid aluminium Helibars drilled and tapped to take the bolt when he got rid of the standard 'hollow' bars)

Aha that is what i have to do, drill the IDE bars........its feasible, Thanks much.
-
Any idea what the website link is. Been looking but cant find??
I pressume the bar are pre tapped to accept bolt?

The standard bars are hollow with a plastic plug on the inner end. I had to remove the bar end weights and poke a stick up the bars to knock the plug out, but it is easy enough.
The tapered cylindrical 'wedge' then slips inside the bar and expands as you tighten the bolt through the open end of the RAM ball. Simples!

IMHO Hornig is the best aftermarket site.

This is the one I have fitted...........

Would the Hornig fit a 2014 K1300S. Looking at pics it would appear so. Would just like to confirm before ordering as not the cheapest bit of kit when postage taken into account??
Cheers.
-
It fits, and if I may add HORNIG are maybe the best aftermarket firm with a customer service department that really works.
-
They also do one which fits in the inner end of the left handlebar and this puts the sat nag slightly higher and further away and gives sightly better access to the ignition key; this is the one I have

Brian (who agrees with Costas about the Hornig customer service)

oh well, you have convinced me. Thats it on order.

May the force be with you!
Brian (who forgot that Andy had posted much better piccies of the bat end fitment)

Sat nav mount came and fitted without issue. However on ride out noticed Sat nav had come off and my new mount was just about to fly down the road. Luckily for me it bounced off bar and decided to find it way down between fairing. Smoke coming from plastic gave location away?? Luckily for me managed to stop and good old BMW have torx driver to hand in tool cupboard under the seat. Fairing removed and retrieved SAT NAV mount. Slightly melted but re-fitted and hopefully wont come lose again. Although I think next time home some Loctite thread glue will be applied to prevent further scare. Anybody else had issue with vibrating lose???
-
Had the same vib issues on the RR, lock tide and tight to the maximum provided the solution.
-
With it on the left bar, my old Garmin brick used to weigh so much that it pulled the bolt undone slightly, but that was obvious and easily fixed.
Brian (who is growing to love his new(ish) 660 and has no security issues with the mount)

Thought I'd just update this to say I got the one Brian posted up. However it does look a little different. I'll photo at some stage.
Trying to get it a decent angle at the moment!

Soz to pick up on an aged thread!! If using a hornig inside bar mount, can the bolts which clamp the bar be loosened off (access appears tricky) to allow the bungs to be removed and the ball mount hornig attachment to be inserted?
Cheers,
Andrew.
-
They can.
However, the easiest way is to remove the bar end weight and pop a rod up its fundamental orifice. A quick tap wiv an ammer and the plakky bung will simply pop out as the OEM bars are hollow, although the end is threaded for the bolt.
I used a long, thin screwdriver.

You should try it Matt, it is very enjoyable and not at all illegal...

morning, all. I have just joined the group as I bought a K1300S back in October. thanks to the great British weather I can't wait to get out. I bought a Motorrad Navigator V but the mounting choices are a nightmare. I like the look of the ball end on the inside of the bars. does anyone know the holder I require to join the Sat Nav unit to the ball? none of the pictures I have found seem that clear.
-
If you post up some pictures of what you have we may be able to tell you what you need.
There is a thread in the How To section on how to post photos.
-
It's a standard RAM ball with a square plate that screws to the back of the Garmin mount and you use a short or long RAM extension arm as you see fit. Mine is on a short one.
-
thanks, I'll get on yo the Ram Website. I was looking at Motorrad for the plate.
