Jacket covered in dead insects  trousers suffering from too many hot days with Betty Swallocks. Anybody done it? Any tips and tricks? Label says take the armour out, 30C machine wash, mild detergent. So do you use a tech wash like for waterproof jackets, or something else?

Kit Reviews / The Halvarssons once-a year, end-of-year, Sale
« on: October 01, 2020, 09:46:07 am »
Motolegends just emailed me to say they are having a Halvarrson sale if anyone is looking

Note that:

But this Sale is going to be a little bit different; and that is because we are going to configure it as a Dutch Auction. And what this means is that the prices are going to be reduced every week. Our starting discount across the range is going to be at least 20% off the rrp. In Week 2 the discount will become 25%; the week after 30% and so on until every stitch of clothing has gone. If that means we end up selling some pieces at 50% off, 60% off or even more, so be it.

Not that this Sale will last that long. You never find Halvarssons gear discounted, so when there are reduced prices to be had, people tend to pounce. We’re just warning you. You will not catch that worm if you stay tucked up in bed! But there are a few things you need to know. You don’t get free returns on Sale items. And you don’t get 12 months to return goods; just two weeks. If you want to visit us in the shop to try an item on, you can. But we cannot put Sale items to one side in anticipation of your visit. So always bear in mind that when you get here the item you’re looking for may have sold out.

Kit Reviews / Goretex
« on: September 30, 2020, 04:44:03 pm »
Just received this from Motolegends. Anyone else know what's going on?

"In future, if your Gore-Tex products leak, you're supposed to only deal directly with Gore Associates.
A new policy from Gore Associates

Like many sellers of Gore-Tex clothing, and like all manufacturers of clothing made with a Gore-Tex membrane, we have only very recently been informed of new procedures surrounding waterproofing claims on Gore-Tex equipped gear.

From October 1st. 2020, (tomorrow), all complaints regarding waterproofing or leaking issues have to be referred directly to Gore. As a retailer, we are no longer permitted to become involved in discussions about water ingress on Gore-Tex products. We will not be able to discuss such matters with the UK distributor or the manufacturer. And nor will you.

Gore has set up a direct line of communication with the company that will allow you to address any issues directly with them. If a garment is found to be leaking, and if Gore deem the fault to be a leak through the membrane, they will repair or replace the garment, or refund the purchase price.

The details of the scheme have not yet been fully clarified, even though the new policy comes into effect tomorrow. But one can only presume that, because you can no longer pop your jacket, pants, gloves or boots into your local dealer, the Gore company will arrange free delivery to their testing house. Presumably, whether the garments are found to leak or not, they will also take care of the return of your product at their cost.

The new policy will apply to any product  with a Gore-Tex membrane, be it a jacket, pant, glove or boot.

This new way of working has been sprung upon retailers and distributors at the very last minute. All we can say is that we are not impressed with the proposed new methodology, and how it has been rolled out. Let me correct that; this scheme has not been rolled out. It has been peremptorily foisted upon retailers like us without any consultation, forewarning or discussion.

We also take the view that Gore’s methodology does not sit well with the current consumer legislation, certainly insofar as it applies in the UK. We will be seeking legal advice, but the system proposed by Gore seems to elicit more questions than answers.

We also have to say that it seems, to us, inconceivable that Gore will have adequately prepared itself to anywhere near the necessary degree to respond to consumer enquiries. There is a toll-free number (00 800 2314 4000). Alternatively, you are meant to fill in a form on their website, and wait until Gore get back to you. But whenever we’ve seen centralised facilities like this set up before, they have singularly failed to meet the demands placed upon them. Language alone will be a problem. Gore proudly proclaim that they can transact in six different languages, but this seems to ignore the fact that in Europe alone there are no less than 24 official languages. Only time will tell how prepared Gore is, but we feel we understand motorcyclists, and no biker is going to want to wait longer than is necessary for a response. They will want a swift resolution. And they will not want to end up out of pocket.

And what do you do if you have a Gore-Tex jacket and it disappears overseas for testing?
Will they offer a loan garment whilst yours is in their system?

We have perhaps made our personal views clear. We will have to wait to see what happens, because Gore is claiming that this new arrangement will give bikers a better and swifter resolution to matters surrounding water ingress and breathability. We remain sceptical. And our suspicion is that the procedures have been set up to reduce the financial burden involved in managing such issues, rather than in order to improve the consumer experience.

The way this has been managed by Gore disappoints us because we have always championed the company’s products and the quality of the procedures that have to be adhered to when a manufacturer uses a Gore-Tex membrane. My own view is that Gore is going to upset a lot of bikers, although the same system will apply to all Gore’s ‘Guaranteed To Keep You Dry’ products. So it’s also going to be ramblers, climbers, runners and cyclists who are affected. And if this new system is going to upset customers, it is going to concern retailers like us. And if retailers and distributors become nervous, then this will presumably cause manufacturers to think twice about using Gore’s membranes.

I am reminded of the much-cited marketeer’s adage about how long it can take to build a brand that consumers truly trust, and how quickly that trust can be eroded. I very much hope that Gore has done all the necessary due diligence here, but the lack of consultation and the way information about the new policy has been disseminated causes me to fear the worst!

K Club Humour / Call the vet
« on: December 31, 2019, 04:49:25 pm »

A dog lover, whose female dog came "in heat," was concerned about keeping it and her male separated. But, she had a large house and she believed that she could keep the two dogs apart.
However, as she was drifting off to sleep, she heard awful howling and moaning sounds. She rushed downstairs and found the dogs locked together and unable to disengage, as frequently happens when dogs mate.
Unable to separate them and perplexed as to what to do next, although it was very late at night, she called her vet, who answered in a very grumpy voice.
After she explained the problem to him, the vet said, "Hang up the phone and place it down alongside the dogs.
I will then call you back and the noise of the ringing will make the male lose his erection and he will be able to withdraw."
"Do you think that will work?" she asked.
"Well it just f*cking worked for me." he replied.

Happy New Year people

K Club Humour / Pheasant hunting
« on: December 18, 2019, 07:28:52 pm »
Costi decided to go hunting pheasants with his best mate, Christaki. So they loaded up Costi's minivan and headed north.
After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible storm. So they pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who answered the door if they could spend the night.
'I realise it's terrible weather out there and I have this huge house all to myself, but I'm recently widowed,' she explained. 'I'm afraid the neighbours will talk if I let you stay in my house.'
'Don't worry,' Costi said. 'We'll be happy to sleep in the barn. And if the weather breaks, we'll be gone at first light.' The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the night.
Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way.
They enjoyed a great weekend of hunting pheasants.
But about nine months later, Costi got an unexpected letter from a lawyer. It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined it was from the lawyer of the attractive widow he had met on the hunting weekend.
He dropped in on his friend Christaki and asked, 'Re Christaki, do you remember that good-looking widow from the farm we stayed at on our hunting holiday up north about 9 months ago?'
'Yes, I do.', said Christaki.
'Did you happen to get up in the middle of the night, go up to the house and pay her a visit?'
'Well, um, yes!' Christaki said, a little embarrassed about being found out, 'I have to admit that I did.'
'And did you happen to give her my name instead of telling her your name?'
Christaki's face turned beet red and he said, 'Yeah, look, I'm sorry, re Costi. I'm afraid I did.' 'Why do you ask?'
'She just died and left me everything.

So on my 60th birthday...
So Ocean wanted the RS back and mine's not ready
So they brought this round as a swapsie

First thing that struck me was the clutch adjuster that looked like something off my old SR500. Then I tried to get on it and nearly cricked something, may be I wasn't warmed up as it got easier later. Seat is a bit high and I felt perched on top of it, I was worried on our uneven drive I was going to tip it over. So light though compared with K, RS or GS. The bars are way lower than the K so initially I felt very awkward. The dash is smart but the text is very small, I eventually realised the funny squiggles in the middle were a lean angle indicator and G force indicator.

Mode was Rain, Sport or Track so I chose Sport and wobbled up the road. Having successfully got out of town I gassed it up the hill. I literally had to check at the next roundabout if the speedo was set to mph not kph. Off again having established those were miles not km I ran through the gears but found at low revs it was very buzzy/vibrating generally, so started to stay n the lower gears. Frankly 3rd does all you need.  The acceleration is addictive but tiring, and certainly in Cornwall you never get enough space to let it rip, consequently its on the gas on the brakes fast slow fast.

After half an hour I was starting to get used to it but felt I was only tickling the bottom end of its capability. My feet being tucked up under my bum even more so than on my K with the low seat was getting uncomfortable. I was able to move around on the seat a bit, but found that I needed to grip the tank with my knees pretty hard most of the time to keep the weight off my wrists. It may have been easier if I was moving around more but finding a piece of road that I could get to lean more than 39degrees without worrying about going too fast for the surface and or oncoming traffic was not happening. The brakes are excellent needless to say. This has been the first bike that I have ever felt I was in danger of falling off the back of and having to hold on tight. It is sooo quick. However there is no way I would want to ride it to Holland.

The S1000 quickshifter is better up and down than the one on the R1250RS Sport  but as I said above you are rarely at a constant speed. I'm getting reasonably handy at clutchless shifts up and down the box on my K now, the shift assist is quicker when accelerating hard but otherwise I wouldn't miss it.

Compared with my K the throttle action is very light, maybe my cables need lubricating

The mirrors were pretty poor, style victims. I struggled to adjust to see more than my arms, and when I could see behind they are slightly too small I think. Not that you need to see what's behind you on the RR...

I've ridden the 1000XR and found it too frantic and after a short while uncomfortable as I was wedged in position unable to shuffle my bum. Going back to where is our K replacement, I think the 1000 4s are too sportsbike/race bike oriented. I want to go to the TT not win it. A detuned 1000 engine with more at lower revs might make sense. Remember the first Fazer with the detuned R1 engine? Maybe that's a better route for the 1000.
