Maybe the S1000RR is the perfect commuter! I'm definitely going to put a few miles on it when it's fixed, and see how I get on. Though if I bring it on the trip in summer I feel like I'll have to bring a chain... and a ... one of those 'doctors' who 'fixes' your back but then it's never the same again and about 2 years later you're in agony and then twenty years later you wonder if you could kill a tramp with a good spine and swap it with yours.

The perfect commuter would probably be something like a NC750 or an ER-6. Getting a commute bike and a fun bike, with the idea of keeping the milage down on the fun bike, doesn't work though.

Is that just before the 'new' model?

I'll ask about seating arrangements when I visit.

Well, I got 'directed' away from the S1000XR for the following reasons, I quote here:
1. Tank range
2. The wing mirrors will clip car wing mirrors.

Discuss.

Also, I rode the R1200RS, 2017 model. Engine felt smoother than I remember. Nice and makes progress. Faster than I thought, and comfortable.

But the engine doesn't open the gates of hell like the K does.

I was in the Triumph shop the other day getting some bits for my Thunderbird. They've got a demo of the new Rocket 3R... 167PS and 221Nm. That is one awesome engine.

Try the R1250RS, it's a lot better

Ah early is anything before 2019 you reckon Rich?

David: thanks, yes, if anything could get me to a chain the H2 SX SE probably could. The biggest two challenges I have are:

1. Price. The non SE is in budget ish but no quickshifter is a hate crime.  SE is about...£14-15k :(

2. It definitely makes me think daaaamn, and maybe is the closest feeling to what I imagine the Akira bike would be like! I test rode it last summer and came away thinking "it's a bit excessive." Not in a scary way, more in a... I don't know, need to try it again.

Range and service intervals agreeable now?

The R1200RS just seems like an easy way out. In a bad way.
The Kawasaki quick shifter is available as a retrofit for the stock H2 SX for less than £300! ;)

Tank range is better than K1300S and mpg almost exactly equal. Service intervals are 7500 miles and so far, services have been cheaper than BMW.
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

'Directed' by whom?

All bikes have 'tank range'.

My K13S mirrors clip car mirrors.

Fit that bloody 'silencer' you had on the K... 8)

haha :D

The salesman.

I know I know. Maybe I need a motorised toboggan. Nice and low.

Oh it's got a 20L capacity, so that should make up for any lower efficiency compared to the K.

Anyway. It's too cold, the E46 wins for now.

I did my several years service! Anyway, one bike is reserved so I'm keeping it spotless, and the other is waiting for the last bit of work, a panel to be painted.

So there's a real... justification :P
