advice / warranty / MOT
« on: July 14, 2019, 09:19:40 pm »
Hello

Ok - I've just purchased BMW warranty for my bike - which i'm happy about.
It starts in one month.

My question is:

I've my service (15k) book in at BMW next week and when I booked it, I thought they could do the MOT as well - seen as it expires in August.

Should I stall my MOT until after the warranty kicks in? Would that be wise? I guess i should just continue with the service as planned.

Thanks

If the bike is running fine right now, its unlikely to fail the MOT, and secondly I would have thought an MOT is unlikely to uncover a warranty-related problem - I think they're more likely to uncover some consumable costs - like pads, etc.

Or have I misunderstood your question?

As Rich says, and expanding slightly, if it's running fine...

It's the service where they'll be more likely to come up with "hay light misting" etc. So you could delay the service for a month, but really I'd go ahead with it all and if stuff needs doing then book it in appropriately.

I've never had a bike issue found at service where they've not wanted me to ride it. I did get told to not go too mental once though, before they fixed something or other!

Test your horn before the MOT, by the way! Mine is always dicky (not just the BMW one - many of my prev bikes) because I never use it.

I have no idea if the exhaust system from head to ball-joint is covered by the warranty, but NOG failed my bike on its MoT because mine was leaking/blowing at the last 2-1 welded joint.

On it's service, a hundred or so miles earlier, nothing was noted.

In your circumstance, that (MoT) might have cost me £600. Based on that, I'd delay the MoT or the whole thing.
