What colour does your bike have ? I have a left side panel (color pearl white) on surplus. Had been scratched and was then perfectly repainted by a carossier in our neighborhood, generally costs around 100€ a piece to repaint it (which closely matches the mentioned price here of a VFR repainted completely for around 400 GBP). No difference to new whatsoever.
A bike I had before the K (Honda Deauville) also had something similar. The garagist charged the complete price of the new parts, and however had the original (accidental) parts repainted anyway. Just to say : you would be surprised how frequently they charge the full new price but have the parts repainted by a carossier anyway. The rest is just as much benefit as it is a pure rip off.
