If it's down to the metal then as Brian says, re-spray, if it's just the lacquer then a rub down and re lacquer. It's a job you can do with rattle cans.

One other thing, once you get it sorted, put some 3M Ventureshield on it.

I got this off of Ebay - expensive for some foil but it's a nice quality carbon fibre (well telling myself that makes me feel better about the price  :o).
Looks MUCH better with it fitted compared to the old scuff marks!

The 3M film on my heel plates is getting a little scuffed.

Someone in here put up a link to some Rhino film which is thicker, just as flexible, adhesive and comes with a protective film on the front of the protective film(!).

I'm gonna do my heel plates and frame sides with it, when I can find it  ::)

This is the stuff I use on the swingarm just in front of the wheel and on the heel plates...

Its pretty stiff when cold, but nice and flexible when softened with a heat gun.

I only use plain water and a rug. Hard labor saves me money.

I'd rather pay someone to do it, or not ride when it's wet to stop it getting dirty in the first place.

My old commuting 1000 Vstrom was so salt ridden the engine casing joint had electrolysis fur around it and it was actually eaten away. The purchaser accused me of opening up the engine case because it looked chewed up

If you want your bike cleaned with a rug, get someone else to clean it  8)

I'd rather see fur on a well-ridden bike than an oh-so-shiny never used model.

I do clean mine every now and then, but only for two reasons:
- to check for broken/loose bits (ex-Italian owner - vital!!)
- to not be embarassed when I meet you lot.
