Service cost.
« on: July 13, 2018, 08:02:30 pm »
Ciao to all. My k1300 is my first bmw. How much am I expected to pay a bm dealer for a service? I have a mechanic friend who serviced my other bikes and he suggests I go to a dealer to keep the service record going. Regards, Gino

Depending on how long you keep it, it could cost you more than the extra depreciation of having it done by a competent third party mechanic.

Our local BMW dealer charges £105 per hour plus the expensive parts.
Its not always the destination that counts its the ride, having a destination just stops you going round in circles.

BMW have a service schedule, so it will depend on mileage and time since last service (as in - its a service once per year even if barely ridden).

As a guide, mine have been between £165 and £600-ish, which was the large 18k / 36k service.
A normal one seems to be around the £250 mark.

A decent dealer will be able to estimate the expected cost, assuming they don't find anything untoward - and if its already got a full service history, there shouldn't be any nasty suprises really.

What's the mileage, and when was it last serviced?

My experience is pretty much aligned with Richard's.  I think the cheapest I've ever had has been around 180, the most around 500.

I asked my BMW dealer if there was a discount for the bike being over 3 years old and they gave me 10% off the quoted price. They also came and collected the bike and returned it when it was done, for no extra charge even though they are 45 miles away. It’s a menu pricing system, so the dealer will tell you what the BMW mothership thinks needs doing based on mileage and service history but you can choose to leave things out if you want to. I think the only servicing requirement for the warranty is oil changes within 2000 miles of schedule, but haven’t got it to hand to check. Overall I think dealer servicing, while not bargain of the century, is reasonable value.

Ah, v good point. I'd forgotten that.
North Oxford offer a similar deal - not sure if it's 3 years or 5 years, but definitely worth asking, espeically if it's first contact with them. They may be more generous to new customers.
