65k and original clutch.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

65k and original clutch.

Which aint too bad I suppose, says me, who has never, ever had to replace a clutch on any bike he has owned, and only 1 car he can think of, Sunbeam Sport(Hillman Imp), Carbon Thrust disintegrated if your old enough to know what they were.
Isnt it Ironic, no its a BMW what dya expect.

My old Escort Mexico used to eat thrust washers; I used to buy em by the dozen!

New Barnett clutch plates arrived today and were soaked in engine oil prior to fitting.

I drilled an extra oil feed hole closer to the face of the hub to improve oil flow to the first plate which I believe was the cause of the original clutch failure.

This photo shows the position of the original oil feed hole which was not far enough over to align with the first plate.

I also tried my twelve point socket on the clutch nut and it fitted without having to be ground down. What is all this nonsense about having to grind down a socket?

With the clutch basket in position I managed to undo the lower bolt of the oil pump drive chain tensioner and eased the tensioner over slighty to reduce the slap of the chain which appeared to me to be rather excessive.

I'm not a fan of the BMW Club although I used to be the Chairman of the London Section many years ago. I know that the BMW Club has a selection of tools although probably not for the K1200S.

Sometimes I find that BMW uses strange methods to complete some tasks necessitating the use of some weird special tools. For instance the procedure and tools required to adjust the oil pump drive chain are a joke.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

Couldn't you just buy some cork inserts for the worn plate?
Oh I forgot that was the last time I saw the inside of a motorcycle clutch.
How times change.
Its not always the destination that counts its the ride, having a destination just stops you going round in circles.

Now, thats very interesting Tom, the BMW Tech Sheet I saw years back mentioned a drill and enlarging a hole, I must admit I thought that was referring to enlarging the hole in the end of one of the shafts that fed oil, but I could be wrong.

Strangely enough I thought exactly the same thing but that BM mail I had was for pre 07's.

Brilliant job Tom. Will follow your steps when the need arose.
My mechanic asked me to extend his congrats on the extra hole solution, he too believes that this will cure the first plate lubrication issue.
Embrace the wind.
