K1200 / K1300 Forum / Reverse "GP" shift pattern
« on: January 14, 2023, 04:20:11 pm »
Hi all, Has anyone changed the shift pattern of their K1300? eg. one click up for first gear and 2,3,4,5,6, by shifting down. This would be interesting to know if possible and what is  involved. I ask because after reading up about HP footrests the description states "easily converted to GP race shift

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Removal of ESA rear shock
« on: August 12, 2021, 03:39:09 pm »
Hi All, covered over 7k on my k1300r since January. The bike is frankly EPIC :) but I have come to the conclusion that the rear shock requires replacement. The usual problem with shocks is that they loose damping and become soft, but this is the opposite- Its  hard and uncompliant in comfort mode but just bearable as long as the roads are not too bad. in normal or sport mode forget it- its like are hardtail  :( I have stripped down the shock linkages and greased all the needle rollers but this has made little difference. To remove the shock it appears that the swinging arm has to be removed amongst other things. Has anyone replaced the rear shock and can it be done without swinging arm removal?  Thanks in anticipation

K1200 / K1300 Forum / trip meter display
« on: June 09, 2021, 02:15:42 pm »
Hi all, is it possible to have the trip meter displayed on the dash constantly without having to keep selecting it with the reset button. It seems that the default display is the odometer. I know that all the bikes that I have had if trip A or B are selected, they are displayed regardless of the ignition being switched on or off.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Summer is coming The K is getting hot!!
« on: April 26, 2021, 07:51:16 am »
Well, picked up my bike after the 18k service and got about a mile down the road and the temperature gauge had shot up to 5 bars >:(
never seen this before. Found a clear stretch of road and got up to around 60mph and it dropped back down. The radiator was obviously removed as part of the service and was told by the mechanic that the rad was in good condition. When I got home, I looked at the level in the expansion tank and it was low. topped it up and , after reading recommendations on this forum, removed the central stone guard from the front of the radiator. Went out for a ride again and now all is well- mainly 3 bars and 4 in slow traffic :winkthumbs:I highly recommend removing the stone guard. My question is - the cooling system was vacuum filled and properly bled, could there have still been an air lock or a stuck thermostat?- 5 bars after a mile is a concern :( Is it wise to run without a thermostat? On sunday, rode around 150 miles and all is OK. Still love the bike even with all its foibles

K1200 / K1300 Forum / 18k service
« on: April 08, 2021, 07:30:45 am »
Have booked my K1300r in for its 18k service, part of which includes checking the valve clearances. Have any members actually had to have the valve clearances adjusted?. I ask this as I am always a bit dubious about some aspects of the service, especially with the drama involved with measuring and changing shims, removing cam shafts etc. One example was on a K1600 I once had. I rode 50 odd miles to the dealer and the service was carried out in less than three hours. The valve were checked whilst the engine was hot. When I enquired, I was told the measurement was carried out with a laser measure - am I missing something?

K Club Humour / Doctor, Doctor
« on: April 08, 2021, 06:57:39 am »
Doctor Doctor you have got to help me. I have a very embarrassing  condition. . certainly, says the doctor, whats the problem?
"Well doctor, every time I break wind it makes the sound "hooonda"- Listen, Im going to fart now-sure enough the sound was "hoooonda"
Well , said the doctor, thats very strange!. Please could you remove your trousers and let me have a look inside your rear passage. So the doctor gets his bright light and has a good inspection "found the problem- You have an abscess  in your passage" Oh doctor is it serious- will I have to have an operation?  No, says the doctor it wont cause you any problems at all. Just remember that "Abscess makes the fart go Honda  :) :)

K1200 / K1300 Forum / K1300r centre stand
« on: March 26, 2021, 03:33:40 pm »
Hi all, Please could anyone confirm if a centre stand can be fitted to a K that has a carbon fibre belly pan. I am thinking about servicing the rear shock needle rollers and I dont  fancy working on the bike when its balanced on a trolley jack... :( I read somewhere, I think on this site, that there are marks on the belly pan indicating where to cut

K1200 / K1300 Forum / K1300r suspension
« on: March 24, 2021, 08:05:19 am »
Hi all, I have owned my current K1300r now for around 5 months. It had only 14k miles on it but in a neglected state. It ran ok but had dubious service history. It had a current MOT but looked cosmetically poor. I carried out basic servicing- oil, filter, drive oil change. The air filter snorkel had been cut off and a K and N filter installed which was covered with what I can only describe as a birds nest of debris!! :(
Since then, I have covered around 4k miles. Have to say that the performance is intoxicating and  my driving license will be at risk without firm self control :). During the refurb process, I have found that the rear shock is very hard- It has ESA and set to comfort with one rider it is very uncompliant- every bump in the road is like being on a pogo stick and the shock is transmitted up my spine :-X causing great discomfort. Apart from the ESA adjustment, is there any manual shock adjustment to damping or pre load and is hard suspension the norm on a K?

Who's Who? / Hi all members of the Euro K Club

I have been lurking in the background for a while now. Have decided to join and help contribute to the brilliant and informative site. I purchased my first K1300r around 2013- A mint 2009 model with only 3k miles. It did not have ESA but was fitted with the optional 2D dash. Had it for around a year and sold it on- one of my biggest regrets!!. Had loads of bikes since- Honda blackbird, X11, ZZR1400, S1000XR, S1000r etc etc. Anyway missed the K1300r- The relentless acceleration, shaft drive, looks and  being so rare. So recently I bought an acid green 1300r which required a great deal of TLC- its getting there and to be honest, I would be in the dark without referring to this site. I will be asking loads of questions.... ;D :D
