Small print!
« on: November 01, 2016, 05:49:48 pm »
I should have put this in 'The Things Bikers Hate' board but I didn't read the forum small print  ::)

When I bought the K12S I added it to my R1150GS BMW Insurance policy. This cost me the princely sum of £5 extra on the annual premium  ;D

When I eventually sold the GS, I took it off the policy and the premium promptly went down by £5  ;D

When I bought the K13S I added it to the K12S policy and the premium virtually doubled for the 6'ish months remaining on the policy :o

Having now sold the K12S I suddenly realised it was still on the policy so I just called the 'help' line run by Devitt. I dunno if they think we are all eshtry boys but the tone is not what I expect  ::)

Having finally got to 'a agent' who can 'do' multi-bike policies (?) it came as more than a small shock to discover that the current insurer, Equity Red Star, does not re-imburse the part of the uplift cost attributed to having two bikes on the policy  >:(

I can't remember if the previous policy was with Allianz or their predecessor but since ERS took over things have got worse. Although the predecessor insurer charged £5 for any change to the policy, they didn't double the premium for adding a second bike and did refund the difference when one bike was removed  :)

Of course, I am sure that all of this is buried somewhere in the small print of the policy but although I do read user manuals and workshop manuals even I draw the line at insurance policy terms and conditions

Brian (who says serves him right for being a pillock but he will have his revenge come renewal time  ;) )

When I swapped my R1 for a Z1000 I was insured through the AA, I was expecting an admin charge to change over but they wanted £300 to cover the remaining 3 weeks on the policy before it expired! Or £100 to cancel the policy and loose 1 yrs no claims.....not wanting to not ride my new bike for 3 weeks I choose the later and told em where to go, I went back to C Nash and paid less than the £300 for 12mths, somebody's takin the pee somewhere!

As I understand it we buy insurance from brokers who buy a lump of risk from insurers and package it as they wish with additional fees for administration costs like £35+ for cancelling cover on a bike.
I don't think it really matters what company is involved unless there is special underwriting requirements.
Other than LV (the old Liverpool Victoria) I don't think you can buy direct from an insurance company like we did in the past.
Its not always the destination that counts its the ride, having a destination just stops you going round in circles.

Is Norwich Union not about nowadays? :o
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

My car, home and contents are insured with LV on  a CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association) scheme (a 'members' scheme much like BMW) but they don't do bikes, or rather didn't when I last looked.

Yes, but that doesn't mean you get rid of all the small print, extra charges etc. issues.
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

Groupama the French company owns CN.
From Wikipedia
In 2004, the company acquired the motorcycle insurance arm of The Automobile Association, helping it to increase its customer portfolio to 230,000 policyholders.[2]
In December 2006, the business was sold by its founder to French insurance group Groupama for an undisclosed sum.[3] Following the sale, David Newman was appointed as Chief Executive Officer in September 2007.[4]

I wouldn't take Wikipedia as being gospel, but a companies house search I would.
