Gripes, Bitches and Whinges! / Re: Parking

I recall complaining to Camden council about a car (resident) parking in an m/c bay which meant no m/c could park. They came out and ticketed the individual because he was parked illegally

In reality Costas the tracker, unless it is monitored by a security company will soon be disabled and rendered useless, but as I already said if it gives you peace of mind then it's priceless.

I'm not so sure it would. There is a tracking company that advertises on YouTube. Some bloke recovered his bicycle because it had a tracker.

With its own power supply, a small insignificant box can and will be over looked. Configuration of the tracking can ensure alerts if there is unexpected movement, to a phone, to the police etc.

. If you park regularly in a notorious bike nicking location then the Almax might and only might be the answer.

Find me somewhere that isn't a "notorious bike nicking location"

You'd think that outside a very public office, across the road from a Police station would be safe, but it wasn't for the K1200LT that was quite literally lifted

The axiom really is "if they want it, they will take it"

Its all about making it more difficult and less desirable for said thief.

That's not to say I'm not in favour of a tracker. In some circumstances it can significantly reduce your insurance and for that reason alone it can be beneficial. Whether you get your machine back is another matter but detected early enough and location passed to authorities, that should mean one less bike theft gang out of circulation

I use an old Office version (2013) which is OK and works up till now. I refused the Office 365, and have looked at Open Office and may jump that way in the future.

You can get licences for Office 2016 (which is 365 by another name)

Or move to a nice sunny greek island and forget all about freezing engines etc........

Well, if I remember "Guns of Navaronne" that well known source of military history, there is snow a top some of those hills

And I know there's snow on top of Cyprus. Not sure about Crete though. High enough they are (watching too many Star wars films)

As I said before I use a map. And when I get my new bagster installed I will be able to see it on top of the bag. I find paper seems to remember things longer than electricity

Paper maps don't tend to give you traffic updates, speed camera alerts, speed limit changes and invariably are more out of date than the electronic provided by a Sat nav manufacturer

There is also the capacity to carry the maps. With just a 660 or a phone, I can travel across Europe. With paper maps, I'll be rolling out the truck to have maps to the same level of detail

Personally, I like having the map at just below eye level and I am rather risk averse to looking at the tank instead of the road. Tried it, sure as hell didn't like it.

I have a small eTrex with OS GB installed, so again, I have some degree of capacity instead of buying loads and loads of paper maps

I hear time and time again that people have problems with Garmin, either Basecamp or Mapsource and lots of associated glitches, I don't however see very often people complaining or asking for help with Tomtom products or software. I wonder why that is?

People don't buy TomTom?

The biggest complaints I know of for their products is their capacity to fall to pieces and appalling customer service, leading to customer going and buying.... a Garmin

Brian (who hates Windows as much as he hates his 660)
I hate anything MS & Windows.. I use my iPhone for a sat nav.

That's OK, I hate all things Apple

The Euro K Club Lounge / recommendations for roadside recovery
« on: November 22, 2016, 02:44:57 pm »
Ok, so I'm departing the BMW extended warranty (and hence Mondial assist).

I'm looking for recommendations for home start/roadside assist. Don't need Europe wide, just UK, and maybe with a replacement vehicle, that's an option

Thanks in advance

Hey Brian, do you get someone local to do the coolant or take it to a main dealer?

This is really the one area I am going to struggle with. I've got a bloke who will do basics but won't touch the cooling system or for that matter do valve clearances. The clearances isn't an issue, they haven't moved. They hadn't on the original engine or the rebuilt one

« on: November 03, 2016, 11:48:46 am »
If these pressure sensors last 8 years, my almost 9 year bike is quite tickety boo

I've found someone who will do some of the servicing for me locally by the way, but he won't touch the water system, but at least he'll do the basics including replacing discs which I think the next MOT will ask for

Thanks for the replies guys.
Looks like my fault for doing to many miles i suppose. Couple of tours during summer and using for daily commute as well. Which has certainly put the miles on my baby.
Will call dealer and see what they say etc. Will keep you posted. :-[ Sounds expensive already. :'(

Expensive - depends on what it needs.

There are period checks for coolant, brake fluid and clutch fluid (not sure on that one)

Otherwise, its every 6,000 miles or annual, whatever comes first. Bear in mid the "annual" may cover oil, filter etc but may only be the period replacements.

Mine is a mess because it had services, annual work and major work done under warranty and I have done no where near enough to do 6k service. In fact, I may not do any mileage to speak of until the MOT is due late Feb next year. But, my little service warning is popping up saying "service Sept". That's nice, except it hasn't done 6k miles and is under on annual as well. Annual - well, surprise its the MOT date. So why is it telling me now? Who knows...
