I'll use it on Sunday when I have to do an assessment ride (and it's going to pour & pour sez the Weather Prophet).
If it fogs up, it will meet the criteria required for the unfortunate name of 'single use plastic'.

I'm kind of glad to hear it's not just me who struggles to get it perfect.

It's mostly great, but whenever I do a full clean I struggle to get it back just right. In particularly rubbish conditions it seems to leak a bit. Although lately I'm unsure if it's leaking or actually fogging. Or if it's outside the coverage area... too busy riding!

I like the sound of the solid never fogging thingy!

That's a good one. Never heard that before. I think that you must be confusing a pinlock with somethng else.

Assuming it's a clear Pinlock and not a tinted one, I'm sure there are no legal night use issues.

I got a new Shoei GT-Air II earlier this year with a Pinlock Evo included. The Shoei manual (page 18) says that when used with a clear visor it does not meet the light transmission standards in the US or Europe so is for 'daytime use only' in those jurisdictions and the Pinlock packaging said the same.  The Gov.UK summary of helmet law says a visor or goggles must meet a BSI or EU standard, so it's not entirely clear to me if they are legal or not.

If so, Pinlock Devo might be a better name.

Here is the answer from Pinlock

Dear Rae,

Thank you for contacting Pinlock and your interest in our product!

A Pinlock lens can be used during night time. On the packaging of the lens we added a ‘daytime use only’ advice because during dusk, night and dawn, we cannot guarantee the levels of opacity yet. During low-light conditions, light can bounce between the lens  and the visor, causing lights to appear double. We would advise weighing the pros and cons of your Pinlock usage in low-light conditions.

The legislation says visors must be stamped with the approval. Pinlock lenses aren’t so maybe they aren’t legal at all. Depends if they are treated as part of the visor, which does have an approval on it, or as a separate item. It could also depend on the visor being tested with a Pinlock lens fitted, which it probably wasn’t. Can’t find a definitive list of the penalties, but one site suggested you could get 3 points.

Considering it's a safety aid, I reckon it's not a difficult argument to win:
"A slightly opaque pinlock or a visor fill of mist, Policeman Officer"?

I assume then the only way that you'd get in trouble would be if you were pulled over and they did the opacity test thing they do with the cool kids in their cars with idiot tints everywhere. I can see that happening if you've got a silly sausage iridium or obvious tint at night. Or if you get pulled and are being an arse.

But we're all sensible sausages .
