Must be a dodgy connector in the somewhere. The fact that both stop working could be a bad earth connection

yeah guys its not a pleasant place to be investigating. testing is fairly limited unless you have experience of a pcb board which i don't. no springs, rollers or anything like that ,which you would expect.
my replacement switch is still occasionally messing about...left hand indicator but it's under warranty so i'm not in a panic, just need to find a bit of time to get it sorted.
