Diagnostic tool that works on a 1300GT ?
« on: November 28, 2018, 07:08:40 pm »
Can anyone tell me if any of the cheap OBD2 diagnostic tools available with a ICOM-D lead work on the wife's K1300GT ? Just want it to cancel the service light but would be good to have one for the car ect.
 Thanks

There was a thread some months ago about an alternative to the GS 911, I can't remember it's title but perform a search, or wait for Richard to find it for you  ;)

Edit: no need to wait for Richard, I was feeling benevolent  ;D

Too kind, Rae ;D

A cheap OBD2 does work, but I can't confirm if it cancels fault codes.
Half useful at best. Me, that is, not OBD2.  :(

I had a go with EDIABAS first, no luck for me, but you may fare better.
In the end I went for a Bluetooth solution. See rough breakdown of the thread below:

- first couple of pages is me trying to suss Carl0s' instructions
- page 3 has useful TomL pic if you don't know where the connector is
- page 4 carries on (and on!) with the EDIABAS
- page 5 and I give up & go to Bluetooth dongle + Android app (https://eurokclub.bike/index.php?topic=2734.msg34993#msg34993)

I can get data out, but I've never had a fault code - because I have no faults.
I should really pull a bulb and see it throws the fault.

If you like, I can step outside into the arctic gale tomorrow and jemmy a bulb out.
But first: can someone let me know if a GS911 can 'reset' a bulb fault, as in bulb is removed, and you can then reset the fault to disappear?
Or maybe some other 'safe' fault to create and reset?

Thank you both for your replies. I did manage to connect my KTM990ADV to my lap top using TuneECU, but that was just a lead to plug in, and it worked.
This BM lark may be a bit beyond my computer capability & the old lap top in the garage.
I did read the 5 pages , just thought there might have been a £20 OBD2 tool that would do the job. As if :(
 Cheers Al

If you do find someone to reset your service light, get them to set a very high mileage and a date many years hence. That way the service light will not come on until you get to the mileage and date selected.

Couldn't people that own a GS911 reset it, we're on the map

Check this one it's the cheapest of all and does it all. Moto Scan program to buy and a module at a fraction of the cost of all others , around 100£.

I have an Enthusiast version which only can be used on ten different bikes. To reset the service light will use up one of the vin numbers. With the professional version there is no limit to the number of bikes that can be connected.

I think we'll all fall out of love with BMWs before we get to ten :P. I'm at 3 and struggling now :(

Thing is that if you want to sell it on, the more vins used the less it is worth.

Think this the App which Costa is talking about.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.wgsoft.motoscan&hl=en_US

Works well with this according to the reviews.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/OBDLink-427201-ScanTool-Bluetooth-Professional-x/dp/B00H9S71LW

It also works with some* cheaper ODB units.

In terms of the app cost, it says the 'Reset service intervals' feature comes with the Pro package - which is £21.82.

I tried it on my somewhat cheaper-but-not-horrendously-cheap BAFX ODBII dongle.
I can see the service interval screen, I couldn't reset it. But then again I haven't paid.  ::)
I've emailed them to ask if it will work once paid for.

*beware of £5 ODB units. Some will work some won't. The BAFX one looked like a good halfway house.

EDIT: The MotoScan chaps say the BAFX unit I have doesn't support the long messages required to reset the date of the service, but it will read and clear trouble codes. So a mixed bag for a mixed price. I've asked if the BAFX will reset the service light.

I have a Snap-on Solus Pro scanner. Not sure what it would do if I got the cable to connect it to the K1300S.

Only one way to find out Tom  ;) although I think the information provided would be very basic if any.
