Very nice  :winkthumbs:

Heed (in Poland) do some nice engine bars - I have a black set on mine, good fit and not too obtrusive.

The Nav 6 integrates nicely; Updates the clock, records speed, gear shifts, lean angle etc, and lets you know when you are low on fuel and pops an icon up that will direct you to the nearest garage. And can be controlled from the wonder wheel when you are riding.

Euro4 dumbed the throttle response down on the K16, and a simple Stg1 ECU tune from http://www.cjsracing.co.uk/ brings it back to life, well recommended  ::)

Cheers! yes I was looking at the Basic ones in Black front and rear - I think they will suit the colour of the bike well.  The Nav is next on the list if I can come across one on eBay or in the local classified ads.

So far I have only had 2 quick spins on the bike - the weather and work have not played ball but I have time off over Christmas so will familiarise myself with all the features it has to offer

Who's Who? / Back on a K

Well it didn't take as long as expected and after having a K12GT, the K13R and despite an itch for a GSA and not really bonding  with the RT I had, it was inevitable I would be back on a K. Pickings are slim here and dont usually last long on the market so when I saw this I knew it would tick all the boxes and this time it will be a long term affair.....

2017 K1600 GT Sport! It has all the creature comforts I could ever want!

But I will add some engine/case bars as well as some tank/pannier pads to keep the paint clean and am currently on the look out for a Nav 6 as I really don't like the blank black space without the nav

Er, yes! A decent screen is always good, and you could have added the luggage easily enough.

Let us know what you look at as and when you find it.

As to Brexit, I was hesitating to hit the buy button on a good deal on a product from a company in 'Ireland' with the word 'Ireland' in their name. My finger got the collywobbles but I managed to find it among all the other companies in 'Ireland' with exactly the same company name. Turns out they were in Portstewart. Confusing or what.

I had the expandable panniers and a small fly screen, but at speed on the motorway it was hard work for the trips I have planned next year and into the future plus the  panniers are quite small.

In comparison to the luggage on the K1300 and the R1150's I have had previously it was just not suitable.

So on my list of likes are;

  • eletrically adjustable screen
  • good 3 piece luggage
  • gear assist pro
anything else will be a welcomed addition

Ireland can be confusing - but we are used to it!  ;D and we miss the benefits of pre Brexit UK when it comes to grabbing an early Ryanair flight collecting a cracking motorbike then hopping onto the A55 to Holyhead for a ferry home before the Mrs gets home from work!

Keep us posted, interested to see what you get.
I will do - I know what I would like but choice and cost over here may be an issue - so it's a long game I need to play for now :)

Well it was a brief affair with the 13R! I enjoyed a few spirited runs out over the summer months but the more I used it the more I realised it was just not practical for what I will be wanting from a bike over the next couple of years, so with a heavy heart (and to keep Mrs T happy) I advertised it for sale.

Not 1 call for weeks then one weekend I had 4 calls all offering the asking price - I was suspicious initially but after chatting to one chap a couple of times and with the promise of a decent deposit the bike was paid for and collected and off to a good home down in Wexford.

So for the first time in over a decade I have no bike and the market here is particularly bad at the moment - not alot of stuff for sale and prices have jumped since additional VAT charges have been applied to bikes from the UK, however I will be keeping my eyes open for something interesting with a decent screen and luggage

K1200 / K1300 Forum / WANTED - K1300r Oil Cooler Grille
« on: October 15, 2021, 12:11:30 pm »
Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has a spare one on a shelf somewhere they would be willing to part with or any other recommendations other than this Wunderlich one;

https://www.wunderlich.de/shop/en/wunderlich-oil-cooler-grille-27300-202.html

I just want to tidy up the front of my bike a bit as the current cooler has a few little dents in it :)

And if you're ever stuck for time/bike broken,  give me a shout and I'll see if I can pick it up from Kearys and get it to you/meet you halfway.
I jump at the chance to go to Stradbally fayre for a breakfast run.

(And I agree with your review, Kearys are top notch.
[/quote]

Cheers I must remember that! I usually get down to Cork for a Rebel Run once a year have a few mates in Ballincollig that I meet up with during the year on other spins

we are certainly not spoiled for choice when it comes to dealerships here ...i don't even know where the third one is....

  • Charles Hurst Belfast - I have used a few times for parts and a service and it's a good excuse for a bit of a spin as it is over an hours ride away. Always found the customer service top notch
  • Joe Duffy Dublin - for the most part they have the monopoly on sales and service in the Republic and with the skills of their salesmen and PCP finance deals you can see why there are so many new GS's out and about on the roads. I have NEVER had a positive customer service experience with parts or service but will probably end up buying from them in the future
  • Kearys Motorrad Cork - 3 hours away EXCELLENT customer service and have the south west of the country wrapped up - I do know people who will ride there from the North West (Sligo/Leitrim) for a service and to avoid the Dublin dealer. If Kearys can get me what I want when the time comes to change up I will make a weekend trip out of it :)

Oh! I almost forgot.... New battery in and bar a bit of faffing about with one of the screws not wanting to engage the bike cracked into life and is all set for a lunch time spin

So, I sent the videos to my local bike shop after a quick chat on the phone - he said the battery is knackered! He had a generic YTX 14BS on the shelf for 75€ HAPPY DAYS

Out of curiosity I called our lovely Motorrad stealer in Dublin (1 of only 3 on the Island) who wanted the reg, the chassis number and then asked for 234€ for a battery! I listened aghast as he went on to tell me if I wanted it fitted it would be another 35€ and I would have to book the bike in on Friday. I asked what type of battery it was expecting to be told lithium but he just said it was a black plastic one  :o  :o   :o    :o     :o  (he wasnt taking the mick either)

Needless to say I popped out the road and picked up the battery and will pop it in later on today - while I was there I asked about getting a lithium one and apparently like tires they are as rare chickens lips over here since the whole Brexit shenanigan's messed up supplies and deliveries

Thanks again for the time and advice as always

I was thinking the battery but the Optimiser was leading me away from that - I only have a small battery tester but will be getting a Voltmeter before the weekend

Thanks for the time and replies :)

Well the issue is it won't start!

I thought it may have been the battery so popped it on the Optimate - all green lights but no joy. She tries to turn over but just dies. However when I put a booster pack on it fires up no problem. I have whipped the battery out and it is just over a year old and it checks out to be at full power - anything else I should be checking?

The one downside of the small Bags Connection quick release tank bag that I have is that there are no external pockets which are essential for credit cards when refuelling or paying at toll booths.

Granted the toll booths thing is less of an issue with the dongle wotsit but I hate having to rummage around in all the other clutter the tank bag to find stuff on the move.

A big plus for your Givi there.

I have started using my phone for contactless payments it is easier to locate and means I can keep my wallet/cards in an internal pocket until needed

I have one of these and also the larger XS307 15 litre for when I do a bigger trip, handy for all the essentials and easy to pop in the top box if leaving the bike unattended for a while

Kit Reviews / Re: What do you use for cleaning
« on: October 07, 2020, 01:30:56 pm »
I like to use Meguiar's Snow Foam and a good wax afterwards. Also I have used ACF50 as I commuted all last winter, it did remove some of the decals on the switchgear but it does give great protection. I put Rainex on the screen too just to help with water dispersion.

A good dry with microfiber cloths and then go for a nice spin :) I am in the process of building a proper shed for the bike(s) which will give me more room to strip and clean over the winter
