Tyres

Has any one on here used balancing beads in their tyres.
I have used them in previous bikes GL1800 and CTX1300 no issues, but then they weren't fitted with pressure monitoring sensors.

Can I be the first to ask: 'What are balancing beads?'  :-[

Sounds a bit new age...

They are more like a powder really, the GL had a wobble problem even after twice being balanced and the " beads " stopped it.
The beads were purchased from Devon 4 x 4 at South Molton,I have no connection with them at all.

Nearly forgot, with a bit of care the beads can be transferred to a new tyre.
I put two ounces in each wheel, with the GL they went through the valve stem, but the CTX the tyre had to be removed.

Tyre sealants have a similar effect.

Can I be the first to ask 'Why do you need them?'

Tom fits his own tyres and iirc doesn't bother with balancing with no problems...

Tom?

I do a static balance on my wheels. Tyre pressure sensors add a fair amount of unbalance and have to be countered.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

Corrected  :)

The question remains...why the bead things?

The beads are favoured by the Americans, I've heard good and bad about them, who knows  :-\

But I still don't understand why YOU need them. What problem do you have?

Any decent fitter will use a dynamic balance machine which gives 3D balance to within a gnat's nidger. Unless you have a dodgy fitter, shot bearings or something loose in a tyre, then why have something else floating around.

Slime and other stuff floating around in a tyre I can understand as it is a preventative rather than a cure. But in this day and age I can't see what you are trying to cure.

From googleing  balance beads, I've now spent an hour on how to change your tyres.. I do like the idea of using cable ties (zipties) to squash the tyre to make it easier to take it off and put back on
