Not in my case Rae…I’m way past my prime! ::)

Whoever came up with the phrase; ‘Growing old gracefully’ should be shot.

Growing old painfully and/or disgracefully seems to fit the bill… ;)

Seriously - where you live it really was all fields when I was a kid!
Well all forests, with dead adders hung on the fences by the gamekeepers to keep the kids out.
And you try telling that the kids of today (contd p94)...

Back to the oil filter.

Thanks for all the replies and photos...much appreciated.

I bought the bike-specific oil filter wrench from NN because I thought it would enable me access to the filter itself without further dismantling but it seems not to be the case as Rich says the 3 bolts have to come out to remove the pivot mount;

Look how tight that cable tie is;  :o

The socket wrench is not as low profile as it could be - see the difference between the cast socket I bought for my old Thunderace vs the pressed socket for the BMW;

Ah well I'm not ready to change the oil filter just yet so I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Thanks & kind regards,

All this fuss about removing the oil filter.

It's going to be epic when you come to replace the spark plugs or adjust the valve clearances.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

Sorry I mentioned it Tom.  :-[

My next question was going to be does anybody have any tips for putting all the bodywork back on but I guess the answer would be 'In the reverse order to how you took it off!' but although it was only a week or so ago I've forgotten already!  ;)

I'm getting too old for mucking around with cars & bikes these days and I'm not enjoying it like I used to so doubt I will be checking valve clearances myself tbh although I am a tool-tart and don't yet own a vacuum-filling device for the cooling system so you never know... :D

Actually I do have a Sealey vacuum tester & brake bleeding kit kicking around somewhere if that might do the job?  8)

This will probably be the first bike vehicle I've ever owned where I will probably won't be changing spark plugs myself either... :-\

I think the oil filter on the K-GT was definitely an afterthought. After they built it and saw where the footrest was they thought 'Chuck, why didn't we think of that?'

I think I've said it before but people who design things should be forced to work on them afterwards...

There look to be more differences between the R/S and the GT than I first thought although am I right in thinking that when to comes to changing the shaft drive oil on all models there is no easy access to the drain & fill plugs and the wheel has to come out?  :o

Do you not have a copy of the RepROM, the workshop manual for the K?
