Only one minor tweak needed (done by me now) - if it's a wide image you can keep it all visible by adding 'width=1000' in the [img] tag.

And well done - a 12 month warranty is a good thing to have.
And it looks v clean.

My jaw nearly hit the floor when I went in the main showroom and the bike was front and centre waiting for me. I didnt even notice any of the other new bikes around it!

When I bought my K13 it was from an independent in Chesterfield who specialised in getting hold of ex-PCP bikes. When the term ends the dealer doesn't get the bike automatically, it is effectively put up for auction to the highest bidder and BMW dealers have higher overheads than an indy so he nearly always wins. It was 3 years old with 10,000 miles and virtually like new.

I think the main dealers have cottoned on to this and some now have a side hussle in the form of a separate company with no overheads who can bid higher on the bike, even though you are getting it from the main dealer with all of the stuff you don't get from an indy.

Great buy and I love the love they showed you when you turned up to view it, I know folks who haven't got that level of service when buying a new BM.

Picked up bike today! Wow! what a machine! its like my VFR but on steroids! LOTS of steroids!

Everything seems fine.. except..... maybe the radiotor 

Im hoping you guys can clarify something for me

After just 5 mins of leaving the dealer the fan came on quite loud while sitting at the lights.  The temp gauge was up at  around 'one bar' under the higher arrow. Then when i set off it would soon go down to 'one bar' above the lower arrow. Pretty much every time I stopped at lights the same would happen.

Is this normal behaviour? is is it sign of a dodgy rad?


Also, sorry if this is a stupid question... but when I 1st start the engine it displays 'brake failure' on the dash until I pull off and then it disappears. Dealer told me this is normal for the abs system, and it needs to move to finnish its checks. I cant see anything about it in the manual though, so thought I would check. The brakes are good.. really good! almost threw me over the top when 'having a feel'...

All in all really over the moon with it and cant wait to get to know it properly!

Definaltey need the bar raisers and rear sets though!

Brake failure light is correct.  The controller needs to "see" the wheels moving before it knows all is well.

Many thanks! Is one bar above the lower arrow ' normal' running temp?  is the higher arrow the beginning of what usually is the red?  should the temp be sitting in between the arrows normally?

Regarding the test. I did notice the bike did actually 'self cool' with the fan sitting at the lights and then the temp gauge went down and fan did stop while stationary. It was my first time riding in about 5yrs in light rain and busy city traffic,  so it was all a little sensory overload! Il take it out tomorrow and have a proper test in a much calmer state of mind and report back...

Whether or not the cooling system is working as it should, it would be a wise move to get a litre of the stuff described and follow the cleaning procedure, belly pan off, rad guard off etc and give the whole thing a thorough clean paying particular attention to the bottom outer corners which is where all the road crud accumulates.

You should be able to see clearly through all the finning in the rad using a torch and mirror as appropriate.

On page 35 of my owners handbook it states...

"ABS self-diagnosis not completed

ABS warning light flashes.
Possible cause:
The ABS function is not
available, because self- diagnosis did not complete. The motorcycle has to move forward a few metres for the wheel sensors to be tested.
Pull away slowly. Bear in mind that the ABS function is not available until self-diagnosis has completed."

If the light shows whilst riding it means that either the ABS is turned off or there is an ABS fault.

I do plan to do a full clean/enhance/protect package on the bike and will defo follow the guide for the rad. Have ordered some of the foaming stuff recommended on another post and that will hopefully be an easy fix.. Otherwise the dealer will be getting a call in the new year for a replacement.

Re the ABS, I saw that bit you've quoted , it was the words "BRAKE FAILURE" in red on the dash that i found a little un-nerving that i couldn't see as part of the normal sequence in the manual

Yes! That gets your attention. Those words appear after all the other warning lights go out and stays on until you get moving. I just had to pop out and check mine, as I have never 'seen' those words before...

After a few miles you will get used the foibles!

From memory:
- 1 & 2 not yet fully warm
- 3 bars is normal / OK
- 4 is slow moving in summer & town in winter. Still OK, but if it's on 4 on a long run in cool weather, that's a hint to clean the rad before summer*.
- 5 is sitting at lights for a long time in any weather/ sub-30mph in town for more than a few minutes in summer. That's the one just below the top mark, and the fan will be on.

The fact that your fan brings it down again is a good sign - don't panic!

Ks obviously aren't ideal for extended town work. The fan will definitely come on, but a working rad won't overheat (i.e. you won't get a red light. Never seen one myself.)

*My habit is to clean the rad after the majority of mud has gone, but before the summer heat, so April/May time. Once a year seems to be enough, and that's with 6-10k miles per annum.

Commuting into and out of London on mine on very hot days neither got above 4 blocks when the rads were working properly.  Even in Spain, with the air temp readout showing 40, while climbing steep hills on narrow roads, didn't get above 4 bars when the rad was good.
