Today's Steed
« on: May 23, 2018, 12:11:44 pm »
An F800 GT. Not a 'GT' by any stretch of the imagination, but a reasonable ride.

You need to get into 3rd gear on A roads to make progress, but it gathers up its skirts and gets on with it.
I wouldn't personally want to go touring on it - not quite enough leg room for me - the tank curve just catches my knees.

Apart from that, competant but uninspiring.
It will be fun getting my own bike back afterwards - whooaa, not so much throttle!

Even more not a GT when the rear 'sprocket' fails and shreds the belt. Yet another non-recall from BMW...

Or it develops piston slap and BMW say bugger off. :)

I had my F800ST for about 3 years. Thankfully I hardly get that engine as a courtesy bike as I can't stand it now, knowing that such nicer things exist! </snobbo>

And today's steed - a Nine T something (Skeleton? I can't remember what the nice lady called it).
My hot start issue is being fixed - fresh wiring:

I can categorically state this is not the bike for me.

The 'pros':
- its light-ish, and the weight is low down
- it goes OK in the countryside, if you wind it up

The 'con' list is long:
- low seat
- no padding in seat. Definite pain after an hour
- small mirrors, that aren't far enough out
- wide bars (why?)
- almost zero information on clocks (no petrol gauge, gear indicator, or even a bloody rev counter)
- twitchy steering (hence the steering damper)
- sounds horrible
- vibrates
- very lumpy around town
- a mudguard design stolen from a Raleigh Chopper

All in all, not a relaxing ride.
Can't wait to get back on the K.

Do your knees hit the heads?

My knees fill that fancy sculpting on the tank + a bit more, but not down to the pots.
My feet are clear of them too. I seem to recall trying a boxer a long time ago, and my tootsies clashed with heads. Maybe a R100RS?

Talking of knees my right shin (they're close to knees) hit that plastic heat/thing guard again now i've lowered my pegs.

I had a boxer again as a courtesy a little while back. Still can't get on with them! And the sparsity of equipment on that one above reminds me of when the 1 series arrived.

It's there to stop you kicking the engine / cooking your toes. Its doing its job well, by the sounds of things!

Re: shins, hitting things, etc: the sporty (knurled) pegs on the Motorsport model don't move, so I regularly scuff my boot shins on the peg ends. Makes a bit of a mess of ones boots. Normal pegs are better, methinks. Hey ho.

Just a little tip if using IMGUR. Large Thumbnail appears to be correct sizing when posting pics.

As with imgbb.com it depends on the size/ quality of the original as to what output size you need.
I usually used Image full size linked but recently Richard sent me some pics of a higher quality and I had to use a smaller output image than usual to make them fit nicely on the screen.

I resize mine to 720 x 540.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

As above Tom, it depends on the input resolution, the higher the resolution the bigger the photo. So the higher the resolution the smaller the size you need to make it fit the forum. If you always use the same resolution then you will always use the same setting for the forum.
Other members using higher or lower resolution will have to use different settings to make the fit the page. There is no "one size fits all" here.
