As long as you are only using the after-market connecter and loom to 'trigger' the device you want to install, then the thingummy from Motorworks is exactly the thing you need. You do not need the Denali wotsit.

The loom is fine for powering a sat nag such as a Garmin or TomTom but it depends on how much current your set up is going to draw as to whether the supply will be sufficient to use it as your only feed.

The connector from Motorworks (a bargain at £12, they have been as much as £21 in the recent past  :o ) has three wires, earth, +ve 12v on and off with ignition and +ve 12v on with ignition and off after about a 30 second delay after ignition is off. The last one is great for turning off the ignition, grabbing something from a pannier and getting the ign back on without losing the power to your device.

Of course, if you only need to trigger the device and not have the 12v there permanently, then it makes little difference.

What? How cheapskate is that? Lose your key in the middle of nowhere and you are stuffed.

I bought the whole set, underbody/driveway cleaner and gutter cleaning set cos it was on offer. Haven't used it yet but good to know it does the job.

Of all the weird stuff. Nice spot though.

I did bits of the GS myself and also the K12 using a kit of 3M ready cut parts. It was good but not brilliant. The guy who owned my K13 from new did it himself and that was an excellent job, much better than my effort.

If you have the time it is worth a go but not if you are a ham-fisted so and so.

Good to know there are professionals who will do bikes, many won't as they are too fiddly.

Nice tip Tom. I've heard it before and forgotten it  ::)

It is a conundrum. My Kárcher on minimum is lower pressure than my 6 bar mains pressure but I am still loathe to get it behind the rad whilst cleaning because it is impossible to get the correct angle on the finning.

The only way to get air in to the system is by letting the fluid level drop out of sight, dismantling a hydraulic fitting, pushing a piston out past the seal or incorrect bleeding. Other than that, a hydraulic leak would show you had a line integrity problem.

Hydraulic fluid is hygroscopic, (it absorbs moisture from the air) so old fluid may well be contaminated and therefore compressible as the water turns to steam next to the pistons and the water gets in to the fluid in the first place because the cap on the reservoir is ventilated.

Those of us who don't pay the man to do the annual service always run the risk of contaminated fluid.

Following this... i too have had my pads off recently. Only to clean/service things so not fitted new ones, not moved the pistons much other than to get the calipers off. But Ive notice this week that my front brakes are very spongy. theres too much travel of the lever before any braking happens, and when it does its very soft.

Im new to K's, so I dont know how sharp they are ment to be, but Im guessing it could throw me off like a bucking horse if i squeezed too hard?

The ABS won't let it toss you off unless you are holding on with only a couple of fingers. The rider manual advises to grab the brake lever hard and let the tech do the work.

I have only ever triggered the ABS a couple of times, once in panic and once in desperation. It's a big bike and it has the brakes to match so if they are spongy or lacking feel then something is not quite right.

I know I am a smartass but there is a method in my madness. I have a plastic clip thing on my bike key which I use to attach the key to either:

a. a ring on the sleeve of my jacket when wandering around off the bike but in biking mode
b. the buckle of my trouser belt when not wearing a jacket but still in biking mode
c. the rest of the bunch of keys for the bike when in the key safe/tossed on the sideboard when not needed

If it isn't in the ignition, a pannier lock, the seat lock or one of the above, then it is officially lost but the discipline means it almost never ends up anywhere else. Except in my trouser pocket in the wash on odd occasions... ;)

I also have a cute(ish) braided coloured string thing on the key ring which I found in Waitrose car park decades ago. Some little human had spent ages weaving/knitting/knotting/sewing the Scooby Doo (Scoobidou? -  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoubidou  ) like thing and then obviously lost it. I thought it too nice to bin and so put it to good use as an ornament. It is surprising how often I see the stringy thingy poking out of somewhere odd and know where my key has wandered off to when the method fails me.

Of course!

Now, if only it was the ring antenna that had gone astray, I always have a spare on the bike. But you do need the key to make it work.

You could have a key cut but not paired with the bike to allow your valet to unlock the steering, wheel it out of the heated bike cave, clean and polish it and put it away again without the risk of him/her/it/they riding off on it.

The reason for the immobiliser is to stop the tea leaves screwdrivering the ignition lock without the key and riding off on your pride and joy. No key, no joy! Simples!

Anyway, how did you manage to not be able to find it?

And have you looked in the seat lock under the tail light, that's where mine is when I can't find it

Yes it does.  Never seen anything like that before, so good to know why it's there.

A friend lost most of his braking effort riding home across mainland Europe due to frothing of the fluid. Don't know why it happened on the K and not on other bikes but the next thing we hear is the addition of the mini loofah in our master cylinders.

Search the Kárcher catalogue, they do one that fits their pressure wash lances. I have one and it is great for car underbody and wheelarch wash as well as K rad and mudguard cleaning.

Has your front brake master cylinder got the yellow mesh foam insert fitted. I remember this was a non-recall to sort out air entering the master cylinder due to fluid sloshing about under hard braking but I can't remember when the non-recall was done  ::)
