I think the benefits of a ChiGee / Carpuride / head units over a phone are:
- larger than some people's phones, but not that much
- touch is by pressure rather than capacitive, so glove presses work
- readable in sunlight*
- can cope with internal and external heat without the screen dimming
- not vibration-sensitive
- comes with mounting kit, which in Quad Lock terms is probably about £50-£120 saved

The other stuff (waterproof, 'rugged' - whatever that means) and definitely OS is no better than a phone.

And you still need to have your phone running in your pocket, so battery anxiety isn't completly eliminated - although with no screen on your phone battery should be good for say twice as long as if you were navigating with said phone.

*the preponderance of gambling shades over the screens (like all good grannies wear) suggests maybe they're not that good in sunlight though.

... to be specifically compatible with Carplay/why can't I remember the android term?

Android Auto.

And I'm pretty sure MRA does work on them, but not quite perfectly yet, judging by the bugs reported in the MRA forum.

It's almost a step backwards to revert to buying dedicated hardware, so I'm resisting. Until you've proven it, Matt.  ;D

My other thought is that although I'm happy (well, sort of) to buy a new phone every 2 years or so, I'll not be happy if I have to buy the most recent Chigee / Android Auto head unit every two years too.

You can strip the bodywork and ride it to them. I did that when I had the K12 cleaned and sealed with wossisname...

Good idea!
Do they run OK without the thermometer attached? (attached to the left lower fairing)

You could try Behind Bars in Kenilworth. Andy Spencer the owner is trustworthy and competent. I'm not sure he's a K expert, but he's certainly worked on plenty of BMWs, so there shouldn't be any surprises in a K.

The trouble with K valve checks is that it's inherently expensive because of the time to strip the bodywork down.

You almost want to do a deal where you strip it, push it into workshop, he does the valves, then push it out and stick all the plastic back on. Probably wouldn't go down well with most indies though.

Love the subject, the quality and the music.
But the upside down bits are too druggy for me!  :o

What are the little connector bits in the yoke holes - for clipping on a phone/other?

I vac my radiator...

That is a very good idea, CC - suck the gubbins out. Might try that next time as step 1.
And the vinegar does what? Dissolves something, presumably...

Going to need some more preload (adds 'bag' symbol).

Only very rarely - twice, maybe thrice on a bike.
But I will be going to up in a car in a couple of weeks, to Bassenthwaite Station Cafe.

Afternoon Tea for two (sweet and savoury):

The fun bit is that you don't need to pick what you want off the menu because you get it all!
Times two.

And a takeaway box for the stuff you can't quite finish.

It's illegal to visit more than once a quarter otherwise your sat fats are going to rocket beyond heart attack levels. But what a way to die.

I haven't agreed a rate yet  mind, suggestions on a postcard to the usual address

One K1300S every 10 days. Plus expenses, obvs.
Does give you enough flex in price?

I mean, there's a K1300S in Autotrader for under £3k at the moment. I was seriously tempted. That's like the price of tinned luggage for a GS.

We must have hit the nadir for K pricing, I reckon.

But aim for a Motorsport every 10 days.

When I rang the man they said 'ah yes, two different modes of cruise fitted to our cars recently...'. Oh well, that's OK then!

Yup, I have the same fun - two vehicles made by the same manufacturer but 3 years difference and the algorithm changed. Disabling cruise control on a gear change is the right thing to do if you use gears to scrub a little speed off. But obviously that's not the done thing nowadays - 'S' is before G' in IPSGA and all that. "Gears to go, brakes to slow." My arse.

The 'good' car that disables it on a gear change is black. If that isn't a hint as to the correct action, I don't know what is.

According to the add they’ve sold 17  :)

17 sold, 2 left.
Ha. I'm pretty sure when Brian and I bought one each back last year there were just 5.

Mind you, the price is still 'reasonable' if you consider secondhand ones are £250-300.
And there's a 10% off coupon. Code is 'SPROUT10'. Apply at checkout, blah blah.
I'm guessing from the name that's a Spring thing.
