That, Brian, makes me wary of (some) dealers as they try to cure problms by throwing new components at the bike until the fault disappears. “Hey, it’s only money and it’s someone else’s.”

I conducted a similar test soon after I acquired my bike and saw the same results. I assumed that the linking is only activated at a predetermined speed.

I normally use my bike throughout the winter so I don’t take any lay-up precautions such as adding stabiliser. It was probably purchased in November as I got little opportunity to ride in December. So, not very old; the only reason I suspected fuel originally was that the bike was perfect when I last used it and had developed this misfire while sitting idle in the garage. The only difference between this period of inactivity and previous years is that I am using Costco fuel since they opened their new station near Edinburgh. I’d be surprised if their petrol is less stable than others but it is the only difference I can think of.

I agree, Rae, it’s always better to find the problem. However, I’ve never heard of coils failing and then self-repairing, and the bike ran faultlessly yesterday. So, for now, I shall assume that my fuel theory is correct and if the fault reappears I’ll investigate further.

Good question about the Karma scores. I, too, have a negative but no idea why or from whom. Indeed, the same goes for my positives. Surely one can’t receive a “demerit”  for stating a contrary or unpopular opinion unless one is impolite or abusive. I see no need for  so called Karma scores. Perhaps the moderators will kindly enlighten us as to the process and purpose?

Excellent. I’m willing to bet he was a cyclist as that argument is often used when discussing the benefits of ultra lightweight road bikes. 🙂

An update to my query:
Prior to the significant snow dump, I removed the spark plugs and checked the gaps; all good.
As planned in my post of 12th February, in the absence of suitable coil testing instruments, I also swapped numbers 1 and 4 coils to see if the problem moved with the coil.
Now that the weather has improved, I took the bike out for a run today and she’s running beautifully again. I am now wondering if my slight misfire was indeed the result of fuel degradation affecting that one injector and the fresh fuel in the tank just took longer to take effect than I expected.

Thanks to Tom and Brian for your input to my original post. I love this bike!

Good luck with your Tiger, I’m sure you will have a blast with that. I test rode the XRX recently, immediately after riding the 1200 Explorer and I enjoyed the 800 more. Cracking bike!
I hope you’ll keep us posted and give us your insights on the Tiger.

I'm a Givi fan but look at Kappa. Same design without the frills and fit Givi racks. I think they're made in the same factory.

Welcome, Stuart! You do indeed have some great roads up there. I have a friend, a Blackbird rider,  who used to live near Aberdeen and he misses having so many good roads so close to home.

That’s the one I have on my R Sport. I’ve exceeded 6kg frequently over the past 7 years with no issues. I think my briefcase with laptop and papers must have been around 10kg.

All fingers present and correct. I've never done a K13 but it really isn't difficult on my 12 with this method.

I do it like this on my R Sport. I don’t know if it works on other models but I’d b surprised if it didn’t.

Fit the stand with one bolt/nut loosely fastened (the bolt furthest from the springs)
Fit the springs. Lever or pull the stand so that the other bolt can be fitted.
I have had my stand off several times and I find this method to be very easy and effective with no need for excessive effort, spacers or friends to assist.

Thanks, Tom. I’ve always wondered about cylinder numbering on the bike. I assumed, like cars, that number 1 was the opposite side from the clutch housing. I shall now number from the timing chain!

Welcome to the forum! Beautiful scenery and a rather attractive motorcycle you have there, arfikk.
