Thanks Rae. Much appreciated. Leave it until Spring and I will see how I get along with it. In the past all I have ever done is set a destination and followed the instructions but might get a little more adventurous now that I have Winding Roads to explore ;D 8) ;D

Learn from those who have made many mistakes before you. As a newbie to routes, never leave it till the Spring. By Spring you will want to be riding and using the sat nag and you will be back here wondering why it takes a month to do anything.

Start now with the long dark nights and lack of decent weather, you will be glad you did come the Spring  8)

You misunderstand. I shall get used to the new TomTom by riding locally over the next 3 or 4 months. Hopefully by the time the weather has improved and my confidence has improved I shall be able to head further afield and take full advantage of what the Rider 500 has to offer.

If not I will find a suitable B&B in Normanton then fill Rae with the finest nut brown ale in the hope of yet more of his excellent help and advice.

It's not as simple as getting the chemical composition right, he is also very fussy about what he drinks it out of.

Unlike most bitter drinkers who will happily put up with an ashtray, a soggy sponge or even the slops tray, for Rae it has to be a fancy lady's glass  ;D

The Tulip glass should be well known to bitter drinkers as it is the choice of branded glass for many bitters  :winkthumbs:

a different approach here.. albeit with bmw nav5 . the secret to understanding the basics of any nav system is to get completely lost ...completely, not quite sure won't cut the mustard for this method. a time limit will help also, a proper important one that is.. like a hospital appointment or closing time at the pub, not i'll master this in ten mins..
when you have to pull in at the side of the road and push what you think will be the correct buttons, with mates giving helpful comments...thats when you learn how to use a sat nav.... a certain amount of bluff may be called for when you take off again, just be confident and avoid doing an actual u-turn then when you arrive at your destination slip the phrase "lucky we had the 'aul sat nav" into the conversation a few different times.
ossian was the only real ale i ever took to..lovely, real ale not being much of a "thing" over here but hophouse 13 is a very similar larger,
i don't drink anymore, but then i don't drink any less either.

@farmer can you stay on topic please, this is clearly a thread about pints  :P :P

Surely Erdinger would be litres?

Ooo, can I shoehorn Brexit in, please?
https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1543345/brexit-success-Boris-Johnson-pint-glasses-beer-EU-ont

He [Boris] said: “From simplifying the EU’s mind-bogglingly complex beer and wine duties to proudly restoring the crown stamp on to the side of pint glasses, we’re cutting back on EU red tape and bureaucracy and restoring common sense to our rulebook.”

I am so glad there was a valid reason for Brexit after all.
