An update to this story.
Exactly 1 month after my bike was stolen, MCE have come good & the money is now in my bank.

Although I had a high excess, a total of £1150, I have ended up with getting £300 less than I paid for it 18 months ago.
I did buy it with the cam cover gasket leaking & poor running engine which probably de-valued the bike some.
I had to clean out the engine breather pipes & refit the original cover gasket, which cured the oil leak £0.
TomK1300S very kindly attached his GS911 & instantly diagnosed the exhaust valve sticking closed, which when wired permanently open, cured the poor running issue.

I've since bought an oldish 2007 R1200GS that is in excellent condition.

I'll see how I get on with it & may upgrade to the 1250 or may find I can't do without another K1300 fix. ;D
Love the riding position of the GS, but miss the smooth almost infinite power of the K.

Have to say I can only recommend MCE insurance after my dealings with them.

Still havn't heard from the Police, other than the crime No, which is probably pretty par for the course.

I just had the steering lock on, but the fairly new VFR next to me had a chain around the rear wheel.

The chain had already been broken & was probably the next bike to be taken, when the scum was disturbed.

Other bikes had disc locks which I had always thought to be fairly easy to break, but may have been more of a deterrent than I thought.

Regarding the value of the bike, MCE make it clear in their policy document that they give you market value from something like Glasses Guide.

We parked the bikes towards the rear of the Hotel car park where they were shielded from view by other cars.
There was a 4' wall topped with 4' railings surrounding the Hotel, but of course an open entrance.
We also think hotel staff may well have been in on it & tipped off the thieves that there was a valuable haul to be had. ( Only because there was a number of young workers there probably on below minimum wages )

The bikes were taken out via a delivery entrance 8' metal gate at the rear that was supposed to have been locked, but no sign of any broken lock laying nearby.

MCE insurance have been asking loads of the same questions in different ways like " is it used for work ", " is it used for deliveries ", " do I deliver Pizzas " etc, when I insured it SDP. They even asked for a picture of where it is normally parked at home in the garage WTF.
MCE have even scheduled a 30 minute telephone conversation with one of their claim staff for 2 weeks time to discuss the claim.
I expect they are hoping I will have forgotten some of the lies they think I've told them by then, but as it's all the truth i've nothing to worry about.

I'll update further as things progress.

Went on a weekend jaunt across North York Moors last weekend with 6 other friends.
We booked into a Hotel in Middlesbrough Saturday night.
At about 01:00 some scroat stole my K1300S together with a friends Kawa 1000 & was just coming back into the car park to collect a brand new VFR ( which he had already broken the lock to ). :'(

A noise woke my friend who's Kawa had already gone & saw my bike being wheeled across the car park.
She woke her partner who quickly donned his keks etc & ran around to the car park.
Said scroats took to their heels & just made it onto a waiting scooter before he could get hold of them.

Police didn't even attend & I only managed to get an incident No from them after chasing them this morning.

Don't know if I'll get another K or not.

I'm very tempted with a 1250GS, we'll see.

" Meanwhile, will the throttle cables need changing? I think it's a bit of a job? "

I have the K1300R yoke ( you will also need K1300R bars ), I much prefer the more upright riding position.

I didn't need to change either clutch/ brake lines or the throttle cable.

I sourced from ebay.de for around £130 ( used but unmarked ).

I don't know how much time you've got, but it would be a shame if you couldn't take in some of the Lake District on your way down from Scotland to Wales.
Here is one of the routes I've used in the past.
https://www.myrouteapp.com/profile/routes/29071#
( You might have to create a myrouteapp account to view it which is free )

It's based on travelling up from South so you would have to modify it to fit in with your time schedule.

I would skirt Carlisle, then Southwest to Bothel or Cockermouth, then pick up parts of the route that suite you.

It takes in several passes, at least one of which is not for the feint hearted, especially if the weather is inclement.

Hope it's of some use.

Forget the above.

I've just checked the Reprom ( which I should have done first ) & although the above system is used in most car injection systems, BMW havn't used it on the K engines. There doesn't seem to be a fuel return line. ::)

On the K they monitor the fuel rail pressure with an electronic pressure sensor & use this data to control the fuel pump pressure.

Isn't there a low pressure return pipe from the fuel pressure regulator ( on the fuel rail ) back to the fuel tank

The way it usually works is the fuel pump runs, pressurises the fuel rail until it reaches the pre-determined pressure of the rail pressure regulator, then excess pressure ( fuel ) is returned to the tank by a low pressure return pipe.

So if you keep operating the fuel pump, the fuel in the rail should gradually get replaced with fresh fuel.

You could remove the return pipe from the tank end & monitor the fuel being returned.

You could try some "easy start", brake cleaner, or carb cleaner into the air inlet.

If it doesn't fire then, you will know it isn't a fuel problem.

A big thanks to Richard & Brian for organising the routes, even if some waypoints were misplaced :o & I'm sure others had a hand in too.

I think everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable few days of riding some of the best ( & worst LOL ) roads that Wales has on offer.

To Matt, hope your not getting Gandhi's revenge from the Beef Phall we had Weds evening like I am ;D

Hope to see you all again soon.

Go and change the coils.

Philip may have the old perfectly good coils from when he tried replacing on my old bike... if he's still about ask to borrow them!

You're certainly welcome to try them Richard, just PM me your address.

Also check the dog-bone bearings, they have been known to seize.

Worth taking apart, clean & grease the needle rollers.

" brake failure  lights on permanently,  even when the engine is running  "

This is the default even with a working system, have you ridden the bike for a short distance, which the ABS system requires to self test the system & extinguish the red light. ( Bearing in mind of course that you will need have set the front ABS gap & that you have poor/ no brakes at the moment  :o )

The rest sounds like you still have air in the system which may need a pressure bleeder to clear.

There was a set of wiring diagrams here https://eurokclub.bike/index.php?topic=83.0
The ones posted by Andym535, but I can't seem to access them now.

I did copy them to my desktop when they were accessible, so can give you that info if it helps.

There are 2 wires directly from the ZFE chassis controller located by the top left of the radiator Plug A21 & A37, to the fuel sensor connection on the fuel tank pump flange.

The fuel sensor shows as being a variable resistor.
It's the Gr-Ye wire at the sensor plug Pin2 & Ye-Bl wire on Pin3.
If you disconnect that plug & connect an ohm meter to the tank side of the connection you should read an ohms value that changes depending on the amount of fuel in the tank.

If you change your meter leads & look at the wires going away to the ZFE with your meter on Volts, you should see anything up to 12v with the ignition on.

Hope that helps.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Re: Vacuum filling cooling system - K1200S
« on: January 26, 2021, 03:51:44 pm »
Having that bleed nipple on the head is really handy.

If you put the bike on the side stand, as Brian says, that is then the high point of the cooling system for the head.

Start the engine from cold, get it up to temperature then loosen the nipple.

Air will bleed out.

As soon as coolant comes out free of bubbles tighten it up.

You still need to bleed the pump & top hose on the other side.

Then when engine is cold again, remove the rad cap & top that up if needed.
