Title: Grand America Footplates on K1600GTL?
Post by: petewright1972 on August 27, 2018, 09:47:42 pm
Hi guys

I am a new owner of a 2016 K1600 GTL.  I am absolutely in love with it!

I have just returned from my first ever motorcycle tour.  I live in Devon, Southwest England and took the bike back to its birthplace - the BMW Motorrad Werk in Berlin.  Bliss!

While I was there I sat on a Grand America.  Beautiful machine!  One thing I particularly liked was the footplates that are located forward of the standard pegs.

After riding 1800 miles in 6 days on the GTL, I'm thinking the only improvement or modification I would like to make to it is to have these forward plates for cruising comfort.

Does anyone know if this is possible?  i did ask the guide at the BMW plant and she thought it would be possible but didn't like to answer definitively.

Thanks in advance
Pete

Hi Peter, congratulations on a great machine. There are a lot of options for aftermarket foot boards if the GA ones don’t fit.

Thanks Belco - great link!

What I'm actually after though is to fit the plates as an additional extra forward from the standard pegs (like on the Grand America) - not to replace the standard pegs.

Your link will be invaluable provided there is some way of actually fixing the plates which I guess I should have been clearer about.

Cheers
Pete

I remember looking at them at the NEC show on the Bagger (K1600B), and I'm pretty sure they're bolted directly onto the engine - or just below.

Picture halfway down here - its says they're optional, so I'm sure BMW will be happy to lighten your wallet:

Richtea, finally got home from work and popped into the garage to look for bolt holes as you suggest .... guess what - bingo!

So between yourself and Belco100 its problem solved for me!

Thanks for your info guys - much appreciated  :)

Pete,

The footboards are listed on the BMW ETK Online Parts Catalogue under K1600 Bagger.

Select the model etc. and go to Group 77, Special Accessories, Motorcycle.
