Helmet Lock
« on: May 27, 2020, 12:51:04 pm »
I made a fing the other day, one of these fings. Well actually two fings, one for Melanie.

Now I can't claim it as my own idea coz it's not. I didn't even know what it was when I first saw it.
I had some odds and sods in the garage and a bit of time on my hands.

For the uninitiated this is what it does and where it fits.

That only shows where it fits. What does it do?

You stick something through the hole to lock it to the bike or anything else for that matter. Locking carabiner, cable lock, you get the idea.

Plastic ?
Sorry, plastic what. It helps to use more than one word in a sentence. If you are asking what it is made from, it's aluminium.

Ah, you don't have double D-rings on your helmet?

In which case I see the point, Rae.

There are lots of helmets on the market with the ratchet system, I think probably more than with D rings these days.

Interestingly the FIM specifies double D buckles. But that's possibly not same as the real world:
http://www.frhp.org/user/pages/documents/FRHPhe-01-amended2.3_web_extract.pdf

Page 6:
- a protective lower face cover must be present and must be not detachable or moveable;
- the shell needs to be constructed in one piece (example: without any seam);
- a  retention system with a strap and the double D-ring closing system must be present.

I once owned a double D system and rode around with it undone for about a year before I left it in a locker in a service station on the M/A1.

Would never have another, especially as my dexterity is not what it was. A bit like my nostalgia...
