Thanks both, the noise is not a problem as I have not removed the baffled, looking at Akra's page it looks like some of the carbon ones are road legal and others not but unclear which one mine has.

Assuming it doesnt have a cat converter, is it better to do a remap or it doesnt really matter? I have never removed a cat

Hello everyone, bit of a random one.

I used to have a K1300S with the BMW akra which was stock and had a CAT, i swapped to a K1300R with the Carbon akra but not the full akra line. In my old bike, at night after a ride I could see the CAT glow red inside, in the carbon one I can't see. I also notice the bike smells like older carb bikes, it doesnt smoke and it drive like other K1300 I rode so I doubt it's tuned but it def have a strong smell of richer mix. The bike had a new ECU mounted by BMW two years ago under previous owner.

My guess is it doesnt have a CAT, do you guys know if the Carbon akra ( not full line) came with one? and if it doesnt have one is there any problem on MOT? Is it ok to run no CAT with standard ecu map?

Thank you and sorry about this feline heavy post :winkthumbs:

For Sale / Wanted / Re: Wanted: K1300 rear light

A belated thought: a single LED is all of 50p or so. Is there any chance of replacing it?

I have no idea if you can simply buy those led and plug and play like a light bulb of if they need to be soldered back in as I have no tools to do so. I also so that for people that do open the light resealing them isnt exactly easy and often they fog up afterwards

I find the sliding is worse when the seat is clean and some of the cleaning or wax has gone on the seat .... so my solution is to run with a dirty bike ... you are welcome  8)

Some of us are not native speaker and were posting whilst taking care of young children ... maybe I did need a break more than i needed brakes at that point in time  8)

I had the SWMotech on my K1300S, nice piece of kit and much more sturdy than the stock rack. some people have modified the stock rack with bigger bolt to fit the top box but given how soft it is I would recommend getting the alu rack

I have some after market ones on my K1300R, black machined alu (can post a picture later) which look nice but are shorter than the original and given I have big hand I am not a big fan of the shorty. Happy to trade if you are interested or if not happy to buy your standard ones if they are in good conditions

Well the standard ones on my bike are pretty much mint with no sign of scuffing on the ball ends either.

Might be up for a trade although I do usually like to keep all my original parts just in case I change my mind!

What make are the ones you have?

Thanks & kind regards,

fair enough always better to keep the originals, I have the following ones, they are very nice but a bit short for my liking. I don't mind on the breaks but as the clutch is quite manly and I do a lot of town driving I prefer longer levers:

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Re: Trackers ... and where to put them
« on: April 04, 2023, 04:21:04 pm »
I intend to fit a BikeTrac or similar monitored tracker but for now I’ve stuck an Apple AirTag in a holder designed to go under a water bottle carrier on a pushbike!

It is fully enclosed so no bright white/chrome surface to give the game away and comes with tamperproof Torx screws to make it more difficult to remove.

The Tag holder came from Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0B28W1D3C?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title and is so discrete you could be staring right at it and not know what it was.

Small and easy enough to hide bolted to part of the frame hidden under bodywork so as not to obstruct the signal and make it even more difficult to access IMHO.

Hope that helps?

Got almost the same on my bicycle, looks better than gafotaping the tracker to the inside of the panel like I was thinking  :P

<Insert Admiral Ackbar gif>

I don't have a K anymore and forget where there's space but here's one fun suggestion to think about:

Smart Tags. You can choose from Samsung ecosystem, Apple ecosystem, or Tile lot. At least the first two I find simple guides to disable the on board "hi thieves here I am take me out and stamp on me" speaker.

Maybe get one of each and hide them in different spots. They're so small it's easy. Battery life ranges from 6 to 12 months.

Discuss :p

I have that on my bicycle but for a motorbike not sure it's quite enough, I will put one as backup but the RF is a good thing when you bike has been stored in a council estate's garage  somewhere

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Trackers ... and where to put them
« on: March 31, 2023, 10:20:20 am »
Bit of a sensitive topic here but if you live in or around a big city trackers are a must.
On my K1300S I had a Scorpion Datatool tracker and it fitted nicely behind the battery and in front of the tank. Change the standard screw to protected one and it was a decent place to put it. However on my K1300R that space is about half the size for some reason ( maybe a bigger battery maybe the bikes are a bit different) so I am not sure where to place said tracker. In a previous bike I had it in the air box for example but haven't looked at the K's yet.

Anybody got a tracker ( battery connected) and could share where they located it? Conscious you might not want to broadcast it so feel free to PM directly if it's better.

Thank you

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Re: K1300S or K1300R?
« on: March 31, 2023, 10:16:03 am »
The bars on the 1300R are higher than the 1300S. I find standard screens are generally a bit short and the one on the S is no exception. It's fairly easy and not too expensive to find a taller screen which works better for you.

I think we can talk about wind protection all day long, I think depending on your size, how fit you are and if you are prone to certain things like back pain different solution will work differently for you. Personally I would rather have non-turbulent air landing on my shoulder and helmet and deal with that rather than having turbulences a helmet level. Given I am fairly tall, to have full hemet protection I need R1200RT level of screen and that's not my style, so I am ok with slightly shorter screens taking the wind on so long as I am tilted forward a bit. I drove an R-nine-T and I had to really hold on to the handlebar at 70 which was painful but on the K1300R I am ok
