Hi, New member here from Lancashire hope I can be of help!

Is it true that the name Preston came from 'priest's settlement' and it was referred to as Prestune in the Doomsday book?

Correct Matt, as I am from the same location but it's Preostu then Preostun and eventually Preston.  8)

Welcome Cropps to the group.

Just back from my Scotland trip another 1000 + miles, I must say the Welsh run this year was good fun with lots of great roads good food and the weather was as Wales is OK, Matt was in his element when we reached north Wales and the Llanberis twisty roads, A big thanks to all and a bigger thanks to Brian Matt and Richard for the organisation of this years run, sorry about your Mini Cheddars  Brian. ;D ;D

Slight change to my plans. A mate has just told me he is off to Canada to work for an indefinite period, and his leaving do is the 14th in Manchester. So I will be sloping off on Wednesday afternoon to join him for a quiet pint (his words not mine)

Heading back to Manchester myself Wednesday so might tag along with you. Tom

There wasn't much of that road left the last time I went over in the car, I will take a look in a week or so.

Morning Brian,
Do we have any routes sorted for the Wales Wramble yet, I will be doing a run around that location when I return from Scotland after this weekend, it looks like the 20MPH limit for Wales is on a stop for now there are too many people against it,  and I have sorted the incompatibility problem with the sat-navs.

Have a good time Rae, La Rochelle is one of my favourites along that coast, I will be in the south of England that week and the weather is looking fine.

Looks great Tom!

I must say the 23L tank on the 1290 GT plus its frugal nature has been most useful in Wales last week (I think ~52mpg indicated, I haven't done the maths in years, 220+ miles anyway). I saw an MT-10 fly past the hotel one night sounding lovely but assumed it was on its way to a petrol station :D.

I could see an extra 7L being quite useful :). Tell me, have you had any issues with the wire wheels? I know reading forums leads to reading problems, but the wire wheels issues (loose spokes, corrosion was it? and something else, maybe ghosts) seemed like BMW had managed to make an old technology problematic.

Regardless I suspect 2023 will see me visiting BMW again.

No Problems with the wheels or anything else and I do push the bike to some limits, over 19,000 miles on it now and the only thing I have done is grease the drive shaft, BMW seem to assemble them all dry, something to look at on a new bike if you are planning on keeping it for some time, these are the first spoke wheels I have had in over 15 years on a road bike mainly because of all the potholes on the roads today, I do prefer alloy wheels as there is less movment when pushing the bike into corners.

I had a go at specifying a 1250RT last night as I do want to like it (with another 30hp maybe) and I got to 23k before I'd even looked at the anodised faffery.

I suppose before I buy another GS I should reacquaint myself with the other bikes using that engine.

Hi Matt
I now have the 1250 GS Adventure, the reason being for the lack of fuel stops up in scotland on our out of the way trips and in some places like Wales and Cornwall where the number of fuel stations has been reduced, the low down torque of this 1250 engine is all you need for the twisty UK roads with a set of PR 6 tyres to keep you on line.

Its not only the tread patten but also the compound and tyre structure, the Angel is a good tyre in the dry I had them on my KTM1290 but for all round in all weathers I personally think the Road 5 is still one of the best, the improvement over the years from the R3 to R4 was good but the Road 5 is great all the way down to the capply.

Tom, What is the capply? Is it something to do with the compound? I've looked it up and hadn't a clue what it was trying to tell me

Tom was clearly speaking Klingon and wishing us success. Qapla Tom!

Ha Ha Matt I didn't know you spoke Klingon, the Capply is the layer between the rubber tread and the canvas.
