Hope nobody minds me adulterating the forum too much but I happen to know that many of you clever people are also partial to 4 wheel BMW's as well as two wheeled ones.
Anyway, I picked up a nice clean E91 3 Series Touring today and all is well apart from one small thing, the right hand headlight rings are not illuminating properly as you can see from the attached pic although power is going to them.
Can someone suggest the reason and better still the solution.
Thanks.

Ride Out Reports / Nice weekend away.
« on: May 07, 2018, 03:27:12 pm »
Lovely weekend away, left on Friday with hubby on his Tedium and friend with wife on Ducati Fuglystrada, headed across country via a convoluted route to avoid traffic being a bank holiday weekend here. Stopped for an al fresco lunch in Lismore  and onto Youghal and stayed in Dungarvan in the SE . Nice place with a good buzz and great restaurants and interesting pubs.
Next morning down to Midleton and a quick stop at the Jameson Distillery. ;D On to Baltimore in west Cork for lunch and up to Killarney where we stayed at the magnificent Lake Hotel, really old school in the best sense and run by the same family since 1910.Weather dry throughout albeit not all that hot, still no complaints. Bike behaved  impeccably  8)

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Duff Battery.
« on: April 28, 2018, 08:39:18 pm »
Skived off work early this evening rushed home and put on all the gear, bike wheeled out. Starter pressed
........................nothing. Battery had been on trickle charger in preparation for the sun for previous 36 hrs so didn't believe it was the battery but on checking it was 11.6v :(
Just stuck it on a 30a charger and did a discharge test , looks like a duff cell. Wonder if there is a warranty?
I have e mailed the supplier and ordered another one having had no issues with them over many years.
Its a Motobatt fitted in August 2017.

How To - Tech & Forum support / Rear Tyre Sensor
« on: April 20, 2018, 11:32:12 am »
My local tyre fitter managed to catch and break the back wheel tyre sensor while removing a worn tyre recently. In fairness he offered to pay for it but as he charges me €5 to take off the tyres I couldent very well do so.
Anyway I picked up a second hand unit from Sherlocks which is now fitted. Its not working but I have something in the deepest recesses of my mind about it having to be initialised/matched using the BMW diagnostics.
Can anyone please confirm this is the case or have I bought a pup? :-\

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Desperately worried.
« on: March 17, 2018, 06:49:50 pm »
I am having sleepless nights about my lovely K1200S. Having owned it for 12 months now and having bought it with no warranty or service history and with it having just turned over 50k kilometres my worry is that nothing has gone wrong. Do I need to write and complain to BMW as I feel that I haven't really experienced true K ownership and compared to the other 99.9% of K owners I feel short changed.
Is it possible I got the one good one they made in 2007?

« on: March 11, 2018, 05:25:18 pm »
Absolutely great to get out today for the first time in about 4 weeks. Hubby friend and your truly headed off in drist and mizzle on a miserable morning but the forecast came good and within an hour it had cleared,by lunchtime it had even dried up :o

Spanish Point on the Clare coast named after the Spanish Armada ships wrecked here in 1588. The lucky few survivors who made it ashore were murdered on the orders of the High Sherriff!

North Clare, a view over the Burren limestone karst pavement towards Galway Bay.

Hubby on his old mans Yamaha Tedium ;D

Coffee,chocolate and cake. Yum :)

As per thread title ,when "making progress" the right mirror wont stay put ,  but moves back affording an excellent view of my elbow rather than watching carefully for blue lights.
Anyway can anyone confirm if there is a way of tightening the swivel/folding joint?
Ta v much in advance. :)

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Oberon clutch slave cylinder.
« on: July 31, 2017, 09:00:03 pm »
Just fitted my new Oberon clutch slave cylinder tonight, really easy to do.I found the std clutch heavy in traffic and cant believe the improvement, its really featherlight.

BMW K1200-K1300 R-S-GT Clutch Slave Cylinder

Oberon Performance clutch slave cylinder for BMW. Designed to improve the efficiency and looks of the original clutch slave cylinder for K1200/K1300 engines. The K1200 OEM piston measures 32mm where as the K1300 was upgraded to a 34mm diameter. The Oberon piston is machined to 36mm which significantly reduces the heaviness of the original clutch action and brings much relief to aching arms. The internal piston design and seals have been drastically enhanced to prevent leaks and leave a much smoother clutch action which helps eliminate the dreaded clutch judder, CNC machined from T6 billet alloy for lightness, strength and eye-catching looks. There are Six fantastic anodised colours to choose from. Everything you need is included in the kit including full instructions and is ready to fit.

Really nice bit of kit and Oberon are super efficient. 10/10

So glad we have such reliable bikes  ::) :o GS owners are in trouble but not half as much trouble as our Bavarian Mottorad buddies wo have had to recall all GS models manufactured from 2013 to 2017 worldwide due to breaking fork stanchions.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / K1200S v K1300S
« on: June 22, 2017, 07:55:01 pm »
Friend looking at a late 1200s or 1300s, but wondering about the real  on the road differences as opposed to on paper specs.
So a question to those of you who have moved from a K1200 to a K1300 assuming the badges were removed are the differences obvious or not?

Ride Out Reports / Took my new lid for a spin.
« on: May 28, 2017, 06:27:34 pm »
Thought I had better take my new Arai Chaser X for a spin having forked out all that money. Its a replacement for the Arai Quantum I have been using for some 6/7 years. Absolutely love it, quiet , well ventilated and comfortable even on the first outing for 6 hours riding. The new Arai visor lock mechanism takes a bit of getting used to ,to open but means the visor when shut is a lovely tight fit.
The funny pattern on the black is the clouds  :o ::)

K1200 / K1300 Forum / F800S /F800GT Sports panniers on my K1200S?
« on: May 13, 2017, 09:03:46 pm »
Got a chance to pick up a pair of these at a good price, they seem the same as K1200 S with the only exception of a concave exhaust shape on the back of one, the rest seems identical.
Anyone know if there is a problem fitting them to my K1200S obviously using the correct K1200S rack.
